A Depth-Progressive Initialization Strategy for Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm

Summary: The Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) is a versatile and powerful method for solving combinatorial optimization problems on near-term quantum devices. The success of QAOA heavily relies on the initial variational parameters. In this study, we investigate the patterns and symmetries of optimal parameters in QAOA, and propose a strategy to predict new initial parameters based on the differences between previous optimal parameters. This strategy offers a more efficient and reliable approach compared to traditional methods that require multiple trials. We also address the importance of non-optimality in previous parameters, which is often overlooked but plays a crucial role in understanding the behavior of variational quantum algorithms.
