Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process and generalizations: Particle dynamics under comb constraints and stochastic resetting

Pece Trajanovski et al.

Summary: The Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process is a Brownian motion in a harmonic potential. It exhibits properties like bounded variance, stationary probability distribution, and mean reverting behavior. Two examples of the generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process are studied, one on a comb model and the other with stochastic resetting.

Autocorrelation functions and ergodicity in diffusion with stochastic resetting

Summary: This study investigates the diffusion properties of stochastic resetting processes and uses a different approach to calculate the moments and autocorrelation functions of single trajectories. It reveals the importance of ergodicity in understanding the physics of resetting.

Resetting random walks in one-dimensional lattices with sinks

L. N. Christophorov

Summary: This study examines a standard symmetrical random walk with Poissonian resetting in a chain with terminal sinks. The expressions for probabilities of occupation of chain nodes are derived, and these expressions are used to calculate the main characteristics of the process. It is found that the outcome of the process can be controlled by increasing the resetting rate.

Income inequality and mobility in geometric Brownian motion with stochastic resetting: theoretical results and empirical evidence of non-ergodicity

Viktor Stojkoski et al.

Summary: This study examines the role of non-ergodicity in the relationship between income inequality, income distribution concentration, and income mobility. The research finds that the dynamics of inequality depend on the economic regime, while mobility measures remain stable. The analysis of income share data in the USA confirms the presence of non-ergodicity in income dynamics.

Condensation transition in large deviations of self-similar Gaussian processes with stochastic resetting

Naftali R. Smith et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the fluctuations of the area A(t) with Hurst exponent H > 0 (e.g., standard or fractional Brownian motion, or the random acceleration process). It is found that in the long-time limit, the distribution of A(t) takes on a non-Gaussian form with different anomalous scaling.

Nonergodicity of reset geometric Brownian motion

Deepak Vinod et al.

Summary: In this study, we derived ensemble- and time-averaged mean-squared displacements (MSD, TAMSD) for Poisson-reset geometric Brownian motion (GBM), which is in agreement with simulations. We found that MSD and TAMSD reach saturation under frequent resetting, and quantified the spread of TAMSDs using the ergodicity-breaking parameter. We also computed price distributions and proved the general nonequivalence between MSD and TAMSD, indicating that reset GBM is nonergodic.

Anomalous scaling and first-order dynamical phase transition in large deviations of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process

Naftali R. Smith

Summary: In this study, we investigate the distribution of A = LT xn(t)dt, where x(t) is an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. We find that for n > 2, the long-time scaling form of the distribution exhibits an anomalous behavior. By calculating the exact rate function, we identify a first-order dynamical phase transition that separates the Gaussian distribution of typical fluctuations from the condensed phase describing the tails of the distribution.

Diffusion-Advection Equations on a Comb: Resetting and Random Search

Trifce Sandev et al.

Summary: This review examines various drift-diffusion and inhomogeneous advection problems with and without resetting on comblike structures, using numerical simulations to verify analytical results. The subordination approach is shown to be effective in studying random search problems with and without resetting.

Designing nonequilibrium states of quantum matter through stochastic resetting

Gabriele Perfetto et al.

Summary: The study focuses on closed quantum many-body systems subject to stochastic resetting, showing that controlled stochastic resetting dynamics can be used to design nonequilibrium stationary states to prevent uncontrolled dissipation and heating. Using the transverse-field quantum Ising chain as an example, the research demonstrates that signatures of quantum phase transitions can be observed in the steady state of the reset dynamics.

Random walks on complex networks with first-passage resetting

Feng Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigates discrete-time random walks with first-passage resetting processes on arbitrary networks, deriving exact expressions for stationary occupation probability, average number of resets, and mean first-passage time. Results show that these quantities can be expressed in terms of the fundamental matrix, demonstrating the advantage of first-passage resetting in global search on various networks.

Noise and ergodic properties of Brownian motion in an optical tweezer: Looking at regime crossovers in an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process

Remi Goerlich et al.

Summary: The study characterizes the noise driving Brownian motion of a trapped microsphere across the optical trap's spectral range. By comparing experimental, analytical, and simulated data, it carefully analyzes noise and ergodic properties. The research provides important insights for utilizing optical traps in metrology, covering different diffusion regimes and the transition between them.

First passage under restart for discrete space and time: Application to one-dimensional confined lattice random walks

Ofek Lauber Bonomo et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of restart on the spatiotemporal dynamics of confined lattice random walks by examining discrete space and time first-passage processes under discrete time resetting. A criterion for when restart remains beneficial is derived, and numerical simulations show excellent agreement with theoretical results, indicating the effectiveness of the approach in understanding the effects of restart mechanisms on random walk processes.

Extremal statistics for stochastic resetting systems

Prashant Singh et al.

Summary: This study focuses on extreme value statistics of stochastic resetting systems, which have diverse applications in physics, chemistry, queuing theory, search processes, and computer science. The analysis shows that the arg-maximum density attains a uniform distribution independent of the underlying process at a large observation time. Rigorous results are presented for some setups, while others are supported with heuristic and numerical analysis.
