Effect of using Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) on failure behavior of flat slab-column connections

Mohammad Amiri et al.

Summary: This study focused on the load capacity and ductility of the flat slab-column connection in high seismic areas. The effect of strengthening layer thickness of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) on punching shear strength and post-punching behavior of flat slabs was specifically examined. Thirteen reinforced concrete flat slab specimens were made and examined to investigate the impact of unbalanced moment, ECC thickness, and strengthening ECC layer on punching and post-punching behavior. It was found that the use of ECC as a strengthening layer significantly increased the punching and post-punching shear strength capacities of the flat slabs, leading to a change in failure mechanism from sudden to ductile failure with high-energy absorption when thicker ECC layers were used.

Assessing the structural behavior of reinforced concrete beams produced with macro synthetic fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete

Ahmet Emin Ugur et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of polypropylene-based structural macro synthetic fiber (PPF) reinforcement on the behavior of reinforced concrete beams produced with self-compacting concrete (SCC). Experimental and numerical analysis were conducted, and it was found that SCC specimens reinforced with the appropriate ratio of PPF (5 kg/m3 and 10 kg/m3) exhibited bending failure even without stirrups.

Reliability-based design of fiber reinforced concrete slabs-on-ground in flexure as per ACI 360

Raghad Awad et al.

Summary: Modern design codes use the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) format to account for uncertainties and ensure designs meet a certain safety level. This study aims to calibrate the resistance factor for fiber reinforced concrete slabs-on-ground through statistical analysis and reliability assessments, recommending a resistance factor of phi = 0.8.

Flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beams made of normal and polypropylene fiber-reinforced concrete containing date palm leaf ash

Mehdi Yousefi et al.

Summary: The development of the construction industry and the environmental concerns have led to the investigation of using local, recycled, and waste materials as alternatives in building material production. This study focuses on the effects of Date Palm Leaf Ash (DPLA) on the mechanical properties of Polypropylene Fiber Reinforced Concrete (PFRC). The results show that adding DPLA to concrete improves its compressive and flexural strength, toughness, and ductility. Predictive models are proposed to determine the tensile strength of normal and fiber-reinforced concrete containing DPLA.

Pullout and flexural performance of silane groups and hydrophilic groups grafted polypropylene fibre reinforced UHPC

Feng Shi et al.

Summary: By grafting hydrophilic groups and silane groups on PP fibers, this study successfully improved the bonding behavior between PP fibers and concrete, significantly enhancing pullout forces and energy absorption capacity. Silane-grafted PP fiber reinforced UHPC exhibited excellent toughness and flexural performance.
