Low-frequency sound insulation optimisation design of membrane-type acoustic metamaterials based on Kriging surrogate model

Wang Peng et al.

Summary: This study presents a multi-parameter optimization design procedure for achieving low-frequency noise reduction in lightweight acoustic metamaterials (MAMs). The study establishes a sound insulation model based on the finite element method and analyzes the bandgap characteristics and generation mechanism of the sound insulation peak. The influences of material and structural parameters on the sound insulation characteristics of MAMs are systematically investigated, and a Kriging surrogate model is established for sound insulation prediction.

Using machine learning as a surrogate model for agent-based simulations

Claudio Angione et al.

Summary: This study compared the performance of multiple machine-learning methods for surrogate modelling in agent-based models (ABMs). The results showed that artificial neural networks (ANNs) and gradient-boosted trees outperformed Gaussian process surrogates, the most commonly used method. Using machine-learning methods for surrogate modelling in ABMs can reduce CPU time consumption and facilitate more robust sensitivity analyses.

Optimization design containing dimension and buffer parameters of landing legs for reusable landing vehicle

Bo Lei et al.

Summary: This study establishes geometric topological models and dynamic models for landing legs with single air chamber in the buffer structure of the reusable landing vehicle and validates the accuracy of the dynamic model. The effect of hard point positions on the landing system performance is analyzed, and an optimization algorithm is used to improve the design parameters. The optimization results show a reduction in maximum landing impact acceleration response and buffer structure maximum force, as well as an increase in design margin.

Optimization of an explosive waste incinerator via an artificial neural network surrogate model

Sunghyun Cho et al.

Summary: In this study, operating conditions for a novel method of explosive waste disposal were optimized to minimize NOx emissions, utilizing an artificial neural network to create a surrogate model of CFD output for locating optimal conditions. A 34% reduction in NOx emissions from the reactor was achieved using this surrogate model, showing the potential of fluidized bed reactors in reducing NOx emissions.
