Cu-assisted austenite reversion and enhanced TRIP effect in maraging stainless steels

M. C. Niu et al.

Summary: Control of the formation and stability of reverted austenite is critical in achieving a favorable combination of strength, ductility, and toughness in high-strength steels. The effects of Cu precipitation on the austenite reversion and mechanical properties of maraging stainless steels were investigated. Cu accelerates the austenite reversion kinetics by increasing the equilibrium austenite fraction and serving as heterogeneous nucleation sites. Cu precipitation hardening compensates the strength drop induced by the formation of soft reverted austenite.

Effect of Bainitic Isothermal Treatment on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a CMnSiAl TRIP Steel

Alexis Guzman et al.

Summary: The effect of partial substitution of Si by Al in TRIP-assisted CMnSiAl steels was investigated. The steel was processed through various heat treatments to obtain different microstructures. The TRIP effect resulted in a transformation of retained austenite during tensile tests, leading to improved elongation. Furthermore, the partial substitution of Si by Al decreased the yield strength and increased the total elongation of the steel.

Comparative Evaluation of the TRIP Effect in Steels with Different Contents of Mn and Al

Mircea Cristian Pantilimon et al.

Summary: This paper presents a comparison between four TRIP steels belonging to two different groups. Through heat treatment and impact bending test, it was found that two steels from different groups showed similar mechanical shock behaviors and similar proportions of retained austenite transformed into martensite. Additionally, the steel with the highest Mn percentage exhibited the highest hardness and proportions of retained austenite and martensite.

The relationship between austenite morphology and continuous TRIP effects in forged 4Mn steel

Ran Tao et al.

Summary: In this study, forged medium-Mn steel with high tensile strength and elongation was developed, and the effect of quenching temperature on its properties was investigated. Different morphologies of austenite showed different stability during the deformation process. This finding provides theoretical guidance for controlling the microstructure of high-performance medium-Mn steels.

A new understanding of transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) effect in austenitic steels

Liyang Zeng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the TRIP effect in austenitic steels by simulating experiments and using microstructural characterization methods. The results show that different types of martensitic transformations are associated with changes in SHR at different stages of deformation, and the contribution of DAMAI effect on SHR is greater than that of SIMT effect.

Kinetics of strain-induced phase transformation in TRIP steel

V. Danilov et al.

Summary: This study discusses the kinetics of fronts of localized plastic deformation in TRIP steel using a combination of DIC methods and magnetization measurements. It is found that the kinetics of deformation fronts are mainly determined by the stages of the hardening curve, consistent with changes in the phase composition. The phase transformation starts with the propagation of Luders bands and then proceeds through the formation and propagation of Portevin-Le Chatelier bands, only in the region of increasing strain hardening coefficient.

Transformation plasticity of AF1410 steel and its influences on the welding residual stress and distortion: Experimental and numerical study

Kaiyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of transformation plasticity on welding residual stress and distortion in AF1410 steel through experimental and numerical simulation methods. The results showed that transformation plasticity can reduce stress variation, but has little impact on distortion.
