High-throughput accelerated corrosion test of Q450NQR1 weathering steel

Congcong Du et al.

Summary: A high-throughput accelerated corrosion set-up was developed to obtain different degrees of marine atmospheric corrosion on Q450NQR1 weathering steel. The corrosion behavior of the steel was studied using in situ analysis methods such as 3D laser scanner and scanning Micro X-Ray fluorescence (mu XRF), as well as classical test methods including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and weight loss testing. The reliability of the high-throughput accelerated corrosion test method was comprehensively evaluated. The results showed that the corrosion mechanism and rate in the high-throughput accelerated corrosion testing were consistent with those in the real marine atmospheric environment.

The effect of temperature and UV irradiation on corrosion behavior of 304 stainless steel exposed to a simulated marine atmosphere

Mingxiao Guo et al.

Summary: The effect of temperature and UV irradiation on the corrosion behavior of 304 stainless steel exposed to a simulated marine atmosphere was studied. The results show that UV irradiation can significantly inhibit the corrosion rate of 304 SS, with a stronger inhibition effect at higher temperatures. Moreover, UV irradiation changes the morphology and relative content of the corrosion products on the 304 SS surface, particularly promoting the formation of Cr2O3 at higher temperatures and thus improving the corrosion resistance of 304 SS.

Study on corrosion behavior and mechanism of AISI 4135 steel in marine environments based on field exposure experiment

Yong Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates and compares the corrosion behavior of high-strength steels in different marine corrosion zones. The results show that the rust layer formed on the steel surface has component delamination, and the steel samples in different corrosion zones exhibit different corrosion forms and electrochemical behavior.

Effect of chloride ion on corrosion resistance of Ni-advanced weathering steel in simulated tropical marine atmosphere

Yueming Fan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of chloride ion on the corrosion resistance of Ni-advanced weathering steel in simulated tropical marine atmosphere. The results showed that the concentration of chloride ion had a primary impact on the corrosion resistance of the steel, affecting the formation of NiFe2O4 and the composition of the product film. Increasing chloride ion concentration led to reduced corrosion resistance and changes in the composition and distribution of nickel in the film.

Understanding the role of alloyed Cu and P in the initial rust composition of weathering steel formed in a simulated coastal-industrial atmosphere

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: In a simulated coastal-industrial atmosphere, alloyed Cu and P were found to inhibit electrochemical processes and promote the formation of alpha-FeOOH in the initial rust composition of weathering steel, resulting in a lower corrosion rate. The original/processed data supporting these findings are not currently available due to an ongoing study.

On how the corrosion behavior and the functions of Cu, Ni and Mo of the weathering steel in environments with different NaCl concentrations

Tianyi Zhang et al.

Summary: The corrosion resistance of weathering steel decreases as NaCl concentration increases, although the weight gain rate is lower in high concentration due to the inhibition on the diffusion of O2 caused by residual NaCl solution. In low NaCl concentrations, Cu, Ni, and Mo can promote the agglomeration process and improve the rust layer performance, while in high NaCl concentrations, this process is severely inhibited, resulting in a loose rust layer.

Fundamental understanding on the effect of Cr on corrosion resistance of weathering steel in simulated tropical marine atmosphere

Meihui Sun et al.

Summary: The addition of Cr in weathering steel greatly improves the corrosion resistance by promoting the transformation of rust layer and refining rust grains. Cr-formed products increase nucleation position and diffusion resistance, leading to a slower corrosion rate of the metal.
