A new measure of the resilience for networks of funds with applications to socially responsible investments

Roy Cerqueti et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel resilience measure for a family of networks based on the stability of its community structure. It applies the measure to compare portfolios of funds with different Environmental, Social and Governance scores and finds that the network composed of high-ranked funds is more resilient when funds are small-sized, while the opposite behavior is observed for big-sized funds.

A comparison of node vaccination strategies to halt SIR epidemic spreading in real-world complex networks

F. Sartori et al.

Summary: We compared seven node vaccination strategies in twelve real-world complex networks. The best strategies varied between non-adaptive and semi-adaptive approaches, and also depended on the number of available vaccines. Additionally, partial recalculation of node centrality increased the efficacy of the vaccination strategies by up to 80%.

Network structure indexes to forecast epidemic spreading in real-world complex networks

Michele Bellingeri et al.

Summary: Complex networks are the preferred framework for modeling spreading dynamics in real-world systems. Understanding the impact of network structure on epidemic outbreaks is crucial for assessing network vulnerability and disease control optimization. Research has found that network structure indexes based on node distance are the best predictors of disease spreading extent in real-world networks.

Predicting the Robustness of Large Real-World Social Networks Using a Machine Learning Model

Ngoc-Kim-Khanh Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to predict the robustness of large real-world social networks using machine learning models and validates it by simulating two node attack strategies. The results show that machine learning models can effectively predict network robustness and provide analysis on attack strategies and network structural indicators.

Modelling the impact of social distancing and targeted vaccination on the spread of COVID-19 through a real city-scale contact network

Gavin S. Hartnett et al.

Summary: The study found that the interpersonal connectivity patterns in the city of Portland changed significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a decrease in the number of individuals with many contacts as the pandemic progressed. A targeted vaccination strategy prioritizing high-contact individuals was more effective in reducing the number of cases compared to random vaccination, and combining targeted vaccination with social distancing led to the greatest reduction in cases. The marginal benefit of a targeted strategy exceeded the marginal benefit of social distancing for reducing the number of cases.

Modularity affects the robustness of scale-free model and real-world social networks under betweenness and degree-based node attack

Quang Nguyen et al.

Summary: This paper investigates how the modularity of model and real-world social networks affects their robustness and the efficacy of node attack strategies. The study reveals a negative correlation between modularity and network robustness, with networks with higher modularity being more fragile to node attacks. Additionally, different modular structures in networks exhibit varied responses to node removal strategies.
