Neonatal sepsis in dogs: Incidence, clinical aspects and mortality

Keylla Helena Nobre Pacifico Pereira et al.

Summary: The neonatal period in dogs is associated with high mortality rates due to sepsis. Early mortality is common among affected puppies. Escherichia coli is the main bacterial agent causing sepsis in canine neonates.

Brucella ceti sequence type 23, 26, and 27 infections in North American cetaceans

Jeffrey B. Curtiss et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the association between different B. ceti DNA sequence types (STs) and specific lesions. The results showed that ST 26 was most commonly associated with non-suppurative meningoencephalitis in adult dolphins along the US east coast. ST 27 was predominantly linked to in utero pneumonia leading to abortions or perinatal deaths. Furthermore, ST 23 infections caused neurobrucellosis in cetacean families other than porpoises.

Bacteriological and histopathological findings in cetaceans that stranded in the Philippines from 2017 to 2018

Marie Christine M. Obusan et al.

Summary: Research on bacterial resistance in stranded cetaceans in the Philippines revealed that these marine mammals are resistant to multiple antibiotics, indicating the extent of antimicrobial resistance in the marine environment.

Genome-wide genetic marker analysis and genotyping of Escherichia fergusonii strain OTSVEF-60

Otun Saha et al.

Summary: This study reported the complete genome analysis of poultry originated Escherichia fergusonii (POEF) strain OTSVEF-60 from Bangladesh, revealing multiple antibiotic resistance genes, metal resistance genes, virulence genes, and metabolic functional genes in the genome, which may be associated with pathogenesis and treatment failure against this emerging avian pathogen.

Neopterin, procalcitonin, clinical biochemistry, and hematology in calves with neonatal sepsis

Enes Akyuz et al.

Summary: This study found that neopterin and procalcitonin concentrations decrease along with the treatment, confirming the presence of sepsis in calves and suggesting that sepsis could be a prognostic indicator. Therefore, both procalcitonin and neopterin can be prognostic and diagnostic in calves with sepsis.
