Diagnostic efficacy of sonographic measurement of laryngeal air column width difference for predicting the risk of post-extubation stridor: A meta-analysis of observational studies

Wen-Wen Tsai et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound-measured laryngeal air column width difference (ACWD) in predicting post-extubation stridor (PES). The pooled sensitivity and specificity of ACWD for PES were satisfactory, but further studies are needed due to the limited number of available studies.

Accuracy of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment tool for detecting mild cognitive impairment: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Nayaar Islam et al.

Summary: This systematic review examines the accuracy of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) in detecting mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Thirteen studies were included, and the results suggest that the sensitivity and specificity of MoCA in detecting MCI depend on the choice of cutoff point.

Usefulness of the Visual Cognitive Assessment Test in Detecting Mild Cognitive Impairment in the Community

See Ann Soo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the usefulness of the Visual Cognitive Assessment Test (VCAT) in detecting mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in the community in Singapore. The results showed that VCAT had good diagnostic performance in distinguishing MCI from cognitively normal individuals, with a slightly higher accuracy compared to the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Furthermore, VCAT was associated with medial temporal lobe atrophy, indicating its potential as an effective measure of neurodegeneration.

Expected and diagnosed rates of mild cognitive impairment and dementia in the US Medicare population: observational analysis

Soeren Mattke et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the actual diagnosis rates of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia in the full Medicare population with the predicted diagnosis rates. The study found that the detection rate for MCI was low, especially among Black and Hispanic beneficiaries. Dementia was diagnosed more frequently, particularly in non-Hispanic White beneficiaries.

Comparison of Montreal Cognitive Assessment in Korean Version for Predicting Mild Cognitive Assessment in 65-Year and Over Individuals

Chiang-Soon Song et al.

Summary: This study compared the validity and reliability of two Korean versions of the MoCA for individuals aged 65 years and older, finding that both the MoCA-K and MoCA-K2 are suitable for MCI screening, with MoCA-K having better overall sensitivity and specificity.

Neurotoxic Soluble Amyloid Oligomers Drive Alzheimer's Pathogenesis and Represent a Clinically Validated Target for Slowing Disease Progression

Martin Tolar et al.

Summary: Research shows that inhibiting the toxicity of Aβ oligomers is an effective approach to slow or stop the progression of Alzheimer's disease, with drugs targeting other Aβ species failing to show clinical effects, while those with the APOE4 allele are more likely to benefit.

Summary: This study estimated the incidence of MCI, conversion to probable dementia, and mortality using multi-state survival models. The results showed associations between education level and incidence of MCI and probable dementia, with disparities in incidence among different racial and ethnic groups.

Mini-Cog for the detection of dementia within a community setting

Bruce A. Fage et al.

Summary: This review aimed to determine the accuracy of the Mini-Cog for detecting dementia in community settings. However, there are currently few studies assessing the diagnostic test accuracy of Mini-Cog in such settings, and methodological limitations in existing studies make it challenging to provide clear recommendations on its use as a cognitive screening test in the community. Further well-designed studies are needed to compare Mini-Cog with other cognitive screening tests in community settings.

Current advances in digital cognitive assessment for preclinical Alzheimer's disease

Fredrik Ohman et al.

Summary: Digital cognitive assessment shows potential advantages in capturing and tracking cognitive changes in the preclinical stage of Alzheimer's disease. Current research indicates good validity of digital cognitive assessment against Alzheimer's disease biomarkers, and it is expected to play a crucial role in future screening and tracking efforts.
