Adherence to Hand Hygiene among Nurses and Clinicians at Chiradzulu District Hospital, Southern Malawi

Monica Nzanga et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine adherence to hand hygiene guidelines among nurses and clinicians in Malawi. The findings revealed low adherence to hand hygiene practices among healthcare workers in Malawi, despite higher reported practices compared to observed practices. These results highlight the need for interventions targeting the adoption of recommended hand hygiene behaviors, including infrastructure, consumables, and theory-driven behavior change interventions.

Nurses' cleaning practice of non-critical medical equipment in the era of COVID 19: A cross-sectional study in Debre-Tabor comprehensive specialized hospital

Tekalign Amera Birlie et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the cleaning practices of non-critical medical equipment (NCME) among nurses in a hospital in Ethiopia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that nurses had very low adherence to proper cleaning practices, with lack of disinfecting materials and training on infection prevention identified as major barriers.

Impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on nosocomial Clostridioides difficile infection

Manuel Ponce-Alonso et al.

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a significant reduction in the incidence density of healthcare-facility-associated Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), while antibiotic consumption slightly increased. The importance of reducing nosocomial transmission by healthcare workers and asymptomatic colonized patients, reinforcing cleaning procedures, and reducing patient mobility in the epidemiological control of CDI is highlighted.

Impact of mhealth messages and environmental cues on hand hygiene practice among healthcare workers in the greater Kampala metropolitan area, Uganda: study protocol for a cluster randomized trial

Richard K. Mugambe et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the impact of mhealth hygiene messages and environmental cues on hand hygiene practice among healthcare workers, through a cluster-randomized trial guided by the behaviour centred design model and theory for behaviour change. The intervention will be designed based on findings from key informant interviews and observations of hand hygiene facilities in healthcare facilities. The main outcome will be the proportion of utilized hand hygiene opportunities observed, with E. coli concentration levels as a secondary outcome.

The Impact of COVID-19 Outbreak on Nosocomial Infection Rate: A Case of Iran

Maryam Jabarpour et al.

Summary: The study found a significant decrease in nosocomial infection rates during the COVID-19 outbreak, especially in critical care units (CCU/ICUs). Proper implementation of infection control protocols seems to be effective in reducing nosocomial infections.

Hand Hygiene during the Early Neonatal Period: A Mixed-Methods Observational Study in Healthcare Facilities and Households in Rural Cambodia

Yolisa Nalule et al.

Summary: The study found that hand hygiene opportunities during newborn care were frequent and mainly performed by mothers, fathers, and non-parental caregivers, with inadequate compliance across all caregivers. Influencing factors included lack of accessible physical infrastructure, time constraints, increased workload, low infection risk perception, nurture-related motives, norms, and inadequate knowledge. An effective intervention in this context should be multi-modal and target a wide range of caregivers to address different key behavior determinants.

Chunmei Su et al.

Summary: The prevention and control measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly decreased the prevalence of nosocomial infections in most departments, particularly respiratory, gastrointestinal, and oral infections, with no significant differences observed in catheter-related infections.
