Cyclic lateral loading test for composite columns with high-strength steel angle cage

Hyeon-Jin Kim et al.

Summary: The PSRC column with prefabricated steel cage showed good seismic performance, with steel angles at the corners increasing flexural strength and stiffness, and transverse Z-section plates alleviating spalling of cover concrete to enhance deformation capacity. The test results aligned well with existing models in terms of strength and deformation capacity.

Seismic behavior of steel reinforced concrete column with welded studs subjected to combined action of compression-bending-shear-torsion

Ji Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper presents a study on the seismic behavior of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns with welded studs. The experimental results show that setting studs at the flange, decreasing stud spacing, and increasing stud length can improve the seismic performance of SRC columns. Additionally, a certain number of structural studs need to be added to enhance the torsional properties of SRC columns subjected to torsion moment.

Test on mechanical behavior of SRC L-shaped columns under combined torsion and bending moment

Zongping Chen et al.

Summary: The seismic behavior of steel reinforced concrete L-shaped columns under different loads was studied, with a focus on failure characteristics and mechanical behavior. It was found that torsion played a dominant role in energy dissipation of the specimens, and their performance did not meet the requirements of the Chinese Code for Seismic Design of Buildings.

Seismic performance of angle-steel reinforced concrete columns confined with spiral reinforcement

Chunheng Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the seismic performance of angle-steel reinforced concrete columns internally confined by spiral reinforcement (SCARC) through cyclic loading tests. The results showed that SCARC columns exhibited improved hysteresis characteristics, peak strength, ductility, and energy dissipation capacity compared to angle-steel reinforced concrete columns. The developed hysteretic model provided a reliable prediction of SCARC columns under cyclic loading.

Flexural testing for composite members with bolt-connected steel angles

Hyeon-Jin Kim et al.

Summary: The development of a prefabricated steel-reinforced concrete (PSRC) composite column with bolt-connected steel angles improved constructability of large columns. Tests showed good bond resistance between concrete and steel due to bolt assemblies and transverse plates on the steel angles, preventing early bond failure. Despite higher flexural strength, the ductility of PSRC specimens decreased due to stress concentration and tensile fracture at bolt hole locations in the steel angles as inelastic deformation increased.

Axial Compressive Behavior of Concrete-Encased High-Strength Steel Angle Columns

Tae-Sung Eom et al.

Summary: This study investigated the compressive behavior of concrete-encased high-strength steel angle columns through experimental and theoretical analysis, revealing the significant effects of local buckling and concrete confinement on compressive strength and ductility. Effective stress-strain models were proposed to account for various factors influencing the columns.

Coupled ultimate capacity of CFRP confined concrete-filled steel tube columns under compression-bending-torsion load

Yu-Hang Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the behavior of CFRP-CFST columns under combined compression-bending-torsion load using finite element analysis, and proposed simplified design formulae for predicting the ultimate capacity correlation. The research also revealed the influence of sensitive parameters on the structural behavior and ultimate capacity of CFRP-CFST columns.
