Anisotropy in ultrasonic pulse velocity and dynamic elastic constants of laminated sandstone

Amin Jamshidi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the anisotropic behavior of laminated sandstone, showing trends of decreasing ultrasonic pulse velocities and elastic constants with increasing angles (beta) from 0 to 90 degrees, while Poisson's ratio showed an increasing trend. The anisotropy ratios for sandstone samples were determined to be 1.16, 1.26, 1.52 and 1.15 for V-p, V-s, E, and nu respectively, highlighting the importance of anisotropy in geotechnical projects.

Effects of freeze-thawing cycles on the physical and mechanical properties of basaltic and dolomitic rocks evaluated with a decay function model

Ibrahim Feda Aral et al.

Summary: Basalts from Corlu Karatepe and dolomite from Kirklareli were subjected to freeze-thawing cycles and studied. The resulting changes were analyzed, revealing that disintegration behavior was not comparable between the two types of rocks. However, the basalt samples had similar mechanical properties, indicating a high degree of correlation.

Predicting the Strength of Granitic Stones after Freeze-Thaw Cycles: Considering the Petrographic Characteristics and a New Approach Using Petro-Mechanical Parameter

Amin Jamshidi

Summary: A new petro-mechanical predictor parameter (PMPP) was proposed for predicting the strength of granitic stones after freeze-thaw. The study found that mineralogical indices had a more significant impact on strength after freeze-thaw, with Quartz-Feldspar Index (IQF) and Mean Grain Size (MGS) showing a more prominent effect. The PMPP was deemed to have acceptable accuracy for predicting the strength of stones after freeze-thaw, providing significant practical advantages for assessing durability rapidly.
