Potential of Solatube technology as passive daylight systems for sustainable buildings in Saudi Arabia

A. Balabel et al.

Summary: Saudi Arabia is considered one of the most important countries with abundant renewable energy resources, particularly in solar and wind energy. The country's geographical location in the sun-belt zone has led to significant contributions from solar energy projects, especially in smart city initiatives and sustainable building projects. The adoption of Solatube technology, which efficiently transports daylight into interior spaces without excessive heat, has the potential to greatly benefit Saudi Arabia's sustainable building sectors.

Understanding public awareness and attitudes toward renewable energy resources in Saudi Arabia

Abdulaziz I. Almulhim

Summary: This study investigated the environmental awareness and attitudes towards renewable energy. The findings showed that the majority of Saudi Arabians had a moderate level of knowledge about renewable energy. Most respondents expressed concern about the harmful effects of pollution and believed that alternative energy could be beneficial. However, a high percentage of respondents viewed the adoption of renewable energy technology as ineffective due to the high costs involved.

Variability of monsoon inversion over the Arabian Sea and its impact on rainfall

Sanjeev Dwivedi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spatial and temporal variability of the monsoon inversion (MI) over the Arabian Sea using reanalysis data and downscaled simulations. The analysis reveals the role of radiative cooling and boundary layer jets, as well as the slight overestimation of winds leading to increased wind shear. Moreover, a decreasing trend in lower tropospheric wind speed during the summer monsoon over the western Arabian Sea is observed.

The resilience of a decarbonized power system to climate variability: Portuguese case study

Raquel Figueiredo et al.

Summary: Climate plays a crucial role in the design of renewable energy power systems, with demand and climate variability being key factors to consider. In unfavorable climates, a system should have increased cross-border interconnection power and storage capacity to ensure resilience and stability. Modeling for unfavorable climates may result in higher renewable power capacity and increased curtailment of renewable energy generation, leading to higher electricity costs.
