Individual wayfinding decisions under stress in indoor emergency situations: A theoretical framework and meta-analysis

Summary: This study proposes a theoretical framework for individual wayfinding decisions in building emergencies by synthesizing relevant literature. The framework includes four modules of cognitive processes and a module of acute stress, integrating the impacts of acute stress with the knowledge about indoor wayfinding. Two meta-analyses validate this framework, showing that people are more likely to choose exits indicated by signage or the majority of surrounding people. The proposed framework is the first step towards developing an individual wayfinding decision theory in indoor emergencies.

Behavioral, data-driven, agent-based evacuation simulation for building safety design using machine learning and discrete choice models

Exit choice in built environment evacuation combining immersive virtual reality and discrete choice modelling
