Electrochemical Synthesis of 5-Benzylidenebarbiturate Derivatives and Their Application as Colorimetric Cyanide Probe

Yara S. S. El-Dash et al.

Summary: A highly efficient, fast, catalyst-free, and atom economical method was developed for the synthesis of 5-benzylidenebarbiturates. The reaction of barbituric acid and aldehydes in water under electrochemical conditions yielded the target compounds in highly pure forms within six minutes. The broadened scope of the reaction was demonstrated by synthesizing 5-(arylidene)barbiturate derivatives using different aldehydes. The colorimetric detection of cyanide ion using compound 3 g [5-(4-(dimethylamino)benzylidene) barbiturate] was achieved with a low limit of detection.

BioMOF-Mn: An Antimicrobial Agent and an Efficient Nanocatalyst for Domino One-Pot Preparation of Xanthene Derivatives

Pouya Ghamari Kargar et al.

Summary: In this study, a new Mn-based metal-organic framework [UoB-6] was successfully synthesized, and its structure was confirmed by various analysis methods. The aerobic oxidative domino reaction using UoB-6 catalyst yielded xanthene derivatives in good yields. Molecular docking calculations revealed that the newly synthesized xanthene-based bis-aldehydes showed potent HDAC1 inhibitory activity. Additionally, the inhibitory effects of Mn-MOF nanoparticles on Escherichia coli and Candida albicans were evaluated.

Electrochemical synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives in deep eutectic solvents

Eman O. Osman et al.

Summary: This study reported the first synthesis of 4H-pyran derivatives using electrochemical synthesis conditions and deep eutectic solvents in a one pot reaction. By optimizing the reaction conditions, high yields of pure pyran derivatives could be obtained in a short amount of time. The use of deep eutectic solvents also eliminated the need for a supporting electrolyte, improving the sustainability of the catalyst.

Deep Eutectic Solvents: A Review of Fundamentals and Applications

Benworth B. Hansen et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) exhibit significant depressions in melting points and tunable physicochemical properties, but there is still a lack of predictive understanding of their microscopic mechanisms and structure-property relationships. Research on complex hydrogen bonding is crucial for a deeper understanding and development of fundamental frameworks for DESs.

Sustainable synthesis of 1,8-dioxooctahydroxanthenes in deep eutectic solvents (DESs)

M. Shaibuna et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents are formed by the fusion of multiple compounds through hydrogen bond interactions. The study compared the catalytic and reaction medium properties of six deep eutectic solvents for the synthesis of 1,8-dioxooctahydroxanthenes, finding that DES 2 was the most effective catalyst. The photophysical properties of the synthesized xanthene derivatives were examined, showing significant dipole moment values in good agreement with theoretical values.
