Celiac Disease in Uzbek Children: Insights into Disease Prevalence and Clinical Characteristics in Symptomatic Pediatric Patients

Effect of comorbid benign joint hypermobility and juvenile fibromyalgia syndromes on pediatric functional gastrointestinal disorders

Summary: This study evaluated the association between benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS) and juvenile fibromyalgia syndrome (JFMS) with functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. The findings showed that 64% of children with functional GI disorders had JFMS, and 32% had BJHS. JFMS patients commonly experienced retrosternal chest pain, dysphagia, early satiation, nausea, vomiting, and regurgitation. Gastrointestinal symptoms did not differ significantly in BJHS patients. These results suggest that emotional distress plays a role in the complex relationship between functional GI disorders, JFMS, and BJHS, and a multidisciplinary approach is necessary for diagnosis and treatment.

Assessment of Intestinal Permeability and Inflammation Bio-Markers in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Summary: This study investigated the association between zonulin, calprotectin, and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) levels in RA patients. Serum zonulin levels were abnormal with longer disease duration, and fecal zonulin levels were inversely associated with age. There was a strong association between fecal and serum calprotectin, and between fecal calprotectin and LPS in males, suggesting the potential of fecal calprotectin as a specific biomarker for intestinal inflammation in RA.
