Overview of multifunctional cysteinyl cathepsins in atherosclerosis-based cardiovascular disease: from insights into molecular functions to clinical implications

Xian Wu Cheng et al.

Summary: Cysteinyl cathepsins (CTSs) have proteolysis function and can be found in various cellular spaces. They have nontraditional functions in extracellular matrix metabolism, cell signaling transduction, protein processing/trafficking, and cellular events. CTSs play a role in vascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and thrombosis. They can be used as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in atherosclerosis-based cardiovascular disease (ACVD).

Cysteine cathepsins: A long and winding road towards clinics

Monika Biasizzo et al.

Summary: Cysteine cathepsins play important roles in inflammation-related diseases, with their dysregulation leading to pathological manifestations. In addition to their detrimental effects in diseases, cysteine cathepsins are also crucial enzymes physiologically involved in maintaining homeostasis and responding to various stimuli.

Assessment of serum and synovial fluid MMP-3 and MPO as biomarkers for psoriatic arthritis and their relation to disease activity indices

Mariela Geneva-Popova et al.

Summary: Research has shown that serum MMP-3 and MPO could be biomarkers for PsA, while synovial fluid MMP-3 has the potential to differentiate PsA from GoA, and synovial MPO can be used as a marker for crystals in PsA patients.
