Cp*Co(III)-Catalyzed Regioselective [4+2]-Annulation of N-Chlorobenzamides with Vinyl Acetate/Vinyl Ketones

Shanmugarajan Jothi Murugan et al.

Summary: This study describes an efficient and regioselective synthesis of isoquinolones by [4 + 2]-annulation of N-chlorobenzamides with vinyl acetate in the presence of CoCp*(III) catalyst. The annulation reaction was further diversified by using vinyl ketones, leading to the preparation of biologically valuable isoquinolone derivatives in good yields. Additionally, mechanistic investigations including deuterium labeling study and competition experiment were performed to support the proposed reaction mechanism.

Cobalt(III)-Catalyzed Regio- and Chemoselective [4+2]-Annulation of N-Chlorobenzamides/Acrylamides with 1,3-Dienes at Room Temperature

Balu Ramesh et al.

Summary: This paper describes a Co(III)-catalyzed regio- and chemoselective redox-neutral C-H annulation of arylamides/acrylamides with 1,3-dienes. The reaction is well-suited for less-reactive 1,3-butadiene and enables the synthesis of pharmaceutically important 3,4-dihydroisoquinolinones in good yields. The prepared 3,4-dihydroisoquinolinones can then be converted into highly important oxirane derivatives in good yields. A plausible mechanistic cycle is proposed and supported by a competition experiment and kinetic isotopic effect (KIE) studies.

Cobalt(III)-Catalyzed C-H Activation/Annulation Cascade Reaction of N -Chlorobenzamides with 2-Acetylenic Ketones at Room Temperature

Zhouping Wu et al.

Summary: A mild cascade annulation reaction of Co(III)-catalyzed N-chlorobenzamides with 2-acetylenic ketones at room temperature is described. This reaction utilizes the N-Cl bond of N-chlorobenzamide as an internal oxidant, showing broad functional group tolerance and excellent reverse selectivity of alkyne insertion under mild and safe conditions. The cascade reaction provides a straightforward and mild protocol for the construction of isoquinolones in high yields at room temperature.

Weak-Coordination in C-H Bond Functionalizations Catalyzed by 3d Metals

Rajib Mandal et al.

Summary: Transition-metal-catalyzed C-H bond functionalizations have had a significant impact on organic synthesis. The use of low-abundance 4d and 5d metals is in high demand, but it is important to explore methods based on more readily available 3d metals. Weakly coordinating directing groups allow for selective activation of C-H bonds without the need for strongly coordinating directing groups.

1H-isochromene-1-ones and isoquinoline-1(2H)-ones with carbonyl group in position 3: Features of synthetic approaches and transformation

Artem S. Konovalenko et al.

Summary: Oxygen-containing heterocyclic 1H-isochromen-1-ones are important structural components in natural products and biologically active compounds. They can be used as functional substrates to synthesize compounds with different biological activities and diverse applications. The recyclization of the isochromen-1-one system using primary amines is one of the strategies for synthesizing isoquinolin-1-one. In this review, the synthesis of 1H-isochromen-1-ones and isoquinolin-1(2H)-ones with a carbonyl function at position 3 is comprehensively described, their applications as synthons in organic chemistry are summarized, and their biological activities are highlighted.

Summary: This paper describes our exploration of controlling the reactivity of organoiron species and developing an iron catalyst for efficiently activating the C-H bond of a substrate with a directing group, followed by reactions with various nucleophiles, electrophiles, or other substrates, including heteroarenes or electron-deficient arenes. Brief discussions are also made on attempts to use cobalt, manganese, and chromium catalysis in C-H activation.

Ruthenium(II)-Catalyzed C-H Activation/Annulation of Aromatic Hydroxamic Acid Esters with Enamides Leading to Aminal Motifs

Suman Dana et al.

Summary: Hydroxamic acid ester directed C(sp(2))-H activation/annulation strategy using electron-rich enamides under Ru(II)-catalysis has been reported to access aminal frameworks with good yields. Selective formation of 3,4-unsubstituted isoquinolones can be achieved under modified reaction conditions, where the C-H ruthenation step is reversible and apparently not the rate-determining step.

Cp*Co(iii)-catalyzed C-H amination/annulation cascade of sulfoxonium ylides with anthranils for the synthesis of indoloindolones

Yogesh N. Aher et al.

Summary: A Cp*Co(iii)-catalyzed [4+1] annulation of sulfoxonium ylides with anthranils has been developed for the synthesis of indole-indolone scaffolds. The dual functionality of anthranils was exploited, with the nitrogen atom used for C-H amination and the aldehyde group utilized in subsequent intramolecular aldol condensation to produce the corresponding annulated products.

Cobalt(iii)-catalyzed redox-neutral [4+2]-annulation of N-chlorobenzamides/acrylamides with alkylidenecyclopropanes at room temperature

Balu Ramesh et al.

Summary: An efficient synthesis of substituted 3,4-dihydroisoquinolinones using a less expensive and abundant Co(iii) catalyst, avoiding the use of external metal oxidants, is demonstrated through C-H activation. The N-Cl bond of N-chlorobenzamide acts as an internal oxidant in the reaction, converting the derivatives successfully. Deuterium labeling studies reveal that C-H activation is the rate-determining step in this cyclization reaction.
