Thermal Performance Evaluation of Plate-Type Heat Exchanger with Alumina-Titania Hybrid Suspensions

Atul Bhattad et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop models for the thermal conductivity and viscosity of Al2O3-TiO2 hybrid nanofluids. The impact of fluid temperature and particle volume ratios on the performance of a plate heat exchanger was investigated. Experimental evaluations were conducted on heat transfer rate, Nusselt number, heat transfer coefficient, Prandtl number, pressure drop, and performance index. The developed hybrid nanofluids showed enhanced performance when used as a cold fluid.

Summary: In this study, a thermal media was synthesized and a corresponding nanofluid was prepared using MWCNT dispersed in a base fluid. The morphology and crystallinity of MWCNT were characterized, and the stability of the nanofluid was confirmed through visual observation and zeta potential measurements. The thermophysical properties of the nanofluid were measured, and Molecular Dynamic simulations were performed to validate the results.

Summary: Thermal conductivity and dynamic viscosity are critical properties of nanofluids that can be controlled by adjusting the normalized concentration, bulk temperature, and nanoparticle size. While most nanofluids enhance thermal conductivity ratio by 20%, synthetic nanofluids with added carbon nanoparticles increased it by less than 10%.
