Impact of cognition-related single nucleotide polymorphisms on brain imaging phenotype in Parkinson's disease

Ting Shen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of multiple single nucleotide polymorphisms on brain imaging phenotype in Parkinson's disease. The findings suggest that the cognitive-weighted polygenic risk score is correlated with neural activity and connectivity in specific brain regions, as well as gray matter alterations. Additionally, single nucleotide polymorphisms in certain genes are associated with white matter microstructural changes and visual cognitive dysfunction.

Dopamine D1 receptor agonist alleviates acute lung injury via modulating inflammatory responses in macrophages and barrier function in airway epithelial cells

Linlin Meng et al.

Summary: Acute lung injury (ALI) or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a life-threatening disease without effective treatments. In this study, researchers discovered that dopamine D1-like receptors are mainly expressed in macrophages and airway epithelial cells (AECs), and their expression is downregulated in ALI mouse lung after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge. The selective agonist SKF38393 (SKF) was shown to inhibit excessive inflammation and oxidative stress in macrophages and AECs, as well as improve airway epithelial barrier dysfunction induced by LPS stimulation. In addition, SKF administration effectively reduced pulmonary inflammation and tissue damage in LPS-induced ALI mice, and the protective actions of SKF were attributed to the activation of Nrf2 antioxidative system.

Electrochemical detection of dopamine with negligible interference from ascorbic and uric acid by means of reduced graphene oxide and metals-NPs based electrodes

Bernardo Patella et al.

Summary: In this study, electrochemical dopamine sensors based on reduced graphene oxide coupled with Au or Pt nanoparticles were developed and showed high sensitivity in detecting dopamine in synthetic urine. The sensors exhibited negligible interference from uric and ascorbic acids, and achieved a wide linear range and low limit of detection for both Au and Pt nanoparticles. Real urine samples also showed closely aligned dopamine concentrations with measurements from conventional laboratory techniques. The sensor fabrication process was cost-effective and had the potential for integration into flexible substrates, allowing for the development of wearable sensing devices.
