Influence of metal doping and non-metal loading on photodegradation of methylene blue using SnO2 nanoparticles

M. Ramamoorthy et al.

Summary: Pure SnO2, Zn (0.075 M) doped SnO2 loaded corn cob activated carbon (Zn: SnO2/CCAC) were synthesized and their impact on the crystallite structure, optical properties, morphology, and photocatalytic efficiency of SnO2 were investigated. The results showed that Zn-doped SnO2 with loaded CCAC displayed a rutile tetragonal structure. The incorporation of Zn ions into the SnO2 lattice and reduced band gap value contributed to improved photodegradation efficiency.

Nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots supported zinc oxide (ZnO/N-CQD) nanoflower photocatalyst for methylene blue photodegradation

Hendri Widiyandari et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the three-step hydrothermal synthesis of N-CQD and its impact on the physical properties and photocatalytic activity of ZnO/N-CQD in comparison to ZnO commercial and prepared ZnO nanoflower. The physical and optical properties of photocatalysts were investigated to understand their correlation with the photo-degradation of Methylene Blue under visible light. Within 30 minutes, the prepared ZnO/N-CQD achieved an 80% decrease in MB concentration, demonstrating superior activity compared to ZnO commercial and ZnO nanoflowers. Considering the high photocatalytic performance of ZnO/N-CQD, it can be further utilized as an efficient photocatalyst for the removal of organic pollutants from aqueous solutions.

Low-temperature deposition and crystallization of RuO2/TiO2 on cotton fabric for efficient solar photocatalytic degradation of o-toluidine

Mouheb Sboui et al.

Summary: A green low-temperature deposition and crystallization method was developed to uniformly coat RuO2/TiO2 nanocomposite onto cotton fabrics for efficient solar photocatalysis. The RuO2/TiO2/Cotton exhibited better visible light absorption and higher charge mobility, leading to a remarkable improvement in photocatalytic activity compared to TiO2/Cotton. The successful formation of a robust heterogeneous interface between TiO2 and RuO2 suppressed charge carrier recombination effectively, contributing to long-term stability in photocatalytic activity and high mechanical durability.

Directing Charge Transfer in a Chemical-Bonded BaTiO3@ReS2 Schottky Heterojunction for Piezoelectric Enhanced Photocatalysis

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: This work presents the design of a novel metal-semiconductor BaTiO3@ReS2 Schottky heterostructure for high-efficiency piezo-assisted photocatalytic molecular oxygen activation. The BaTiO3@ReS2 exhibits enhanced oxygen activation capacity and forms electron-transfer channels, resulting in untrahigh activity for degradation of pollutants. The polarization field induced by the piezoelectric BaTiO3 reduces the transfer resistance of photogenerated electrons, leading to improved performance compared to other piezo-assisted photocatalysis systems.

Zhenzi Li et al.

Summary: TiO2 nanomaterial photocatalysts have received extensive research interest for energy and environmental applications. The main challenges are the large bandgap and charge-carrier recombination. Recent reports suggest that engineering the defects of TiO2 can enhance photoresponse and promote charge separation efficiency. This review summarizes the synthesis strategies for defective TiO2, especially black TiO2 nanomaterials, and discusses their applications, defect types, characteristics, and photocatalytic mechanism in detail.

Evaluation of Typical Volatile Organic Compounds Levels in New Vehicles under Static and Driving Conditions

Ruihua Guo et al.

Summary: In modern societies, the air quality within vehicles has become a major concern. A study was conducted to investigate the vehicle interior air quality (VIAQ) in new vehicles of different brands under static and driving conditions. The results showed that under sunny conditions, the interior materials of vehicles released higher concentrations and different types of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) compared to an environment test chamber. However, after a period of driving, the concentrations of VOCs and total VOCs (TVOC) inside vehicles exposed to high temperatures reduced to the same level as that in the environment test chamber. The changes in VOCs and TVOC varied under different conditions, influenced by factors such as vehicle model, driving speed, air exchange rate, temperature, and types of substances inside the vehicles.

Yuanhao Cheng et al.

Summary: In this work, a Z-scheme Bi2S3-Bi2WO6 heterojunction with interfacial Bi-S bonds was constructed. The obtained BS-BWO heterojunction exhibited significantly enhanced piezocatalytic performance, which could be attributed to the Z-scheme charge transfer through the formed Bi-S bonds. The increased piezoelectric potential of BS-BWO also contributed to the enhanced piezocatalytic performance, as supported by COMSOL simulation.

Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye using ZnWO4 catalyst prepared by a simple co-precipitation technique

G. Geetha et al.

Summary: In this study, zinc tungstate (ZnWO4) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using a co-precipitation technique without the addition of templates or complexing agents. It was found that annealing temperatures significantly affect the crystallization and crystallite size of the nanoparticles, with well dispersed spherical solid shells and nanoplatelet morphology observed. The decrease in optical energy band gap value of ZnWO4 was attributed to the increase in crystallite size, which in turn affected its luminescence properties.
