Community Profiling of Seed Endophytes from the Pb-Zn Hyperaccumulator Noccaea caerulescens and Their Plant Growth Promotion Potential

Tori Langill et al.

Summary: This study characterized the bacterial communities in the seeds and rhizosphere of two Noccaea caerulescens Pb-Zn hyperaccumulator populations in Belgium. The results showed that the seed endophytic community structure was consistent between the two locations, mainly composed of Proteobacteria, while Actinobacteria dominated in the bulk soil. Inoculating Sphingomonas vulcanisoli significantly increased the root length of Arabidopsis thaliana. These findings highlight the importance of selecting the core seed endophytic microbiome and emphasize their precarious symbiotic relationship with the plant and seed.

Seed microbiota revealed by a large-scale meta-analysis including 50 plant species

Marie Simonin et al.

Summary: Seed microbiota is a diverse and variable microbial community, with a stable core fraction consisting of around 30 dominant bacterial and fungal taxa present across different plant species and samples worldwide. Understanding the characteristics of core and flexible seed microbiota will help uncover their roles in plant health and microbiome engineering.

Seed Endophyte bacteria enhance drought stress tolerance in Hordeum vulgare by regulating, physiological characteristics, antioxidants and minerals uptake

Zainul Abideen et al.

Summary: Growth stimulating bacteria can assist in remediating dry and arid soil, as well as alleviating plant stress. They enhance soil carbon flux, chlorophyll levels, net photosynthetic rate, and stomatal conductance. Additionally, the bacteria improve leaf growth, but reduce root biomass under drought conditions. By increasing antioxidant enzymatic activities and mineral acquisition, the bacteria protect plants from oxidative stress and enhance their overall growth potential.

Plant Growth Promoting Actinobacteria, the Most Promising Candidates as Bioinoculants?

Zineb Faiza Boukhatem et al.

Summary: Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria (PGPBs) are important allies for sustainable agriculture, offering an alternative to chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Actinobacterial microbes have been increasingly studied for their ability to promote plant growth in the past two decades. This review summarizes the articles on Actinobacteria's PGP traits, highlighting the involved mechanisms, revealing their potential as microbial fertilizers, and discussing possible strategies to encourage their use as bioinoculants.

Diversity and plant growth-promoting potential of (un)culturable bacteria in the Hedera helix phylloplane

Vincent Stevens et al.

Summary: This study investigated the bacterial community on the phylloplane of H. helix and evaluated its culturability using different growth media. The findings suggest that uncultured bacteria from the phylloplane may have potential applications in plant growth promotion, phytoremediation, and other plant-based biotechnologies. The study highlights the importance of simple strategies for obtaining higher microbial diversity from environmental samples and the use of high-throughput sequencing to guide isolate selection from various growth media.

Efficient degradation of the organic UV filter benzophenone-3 by Sphingomonas wittichii strain BP14P isolated from WWTP sludge

S. K. Fagervold et al.

Summary: The study identified a bacterial strain, Sphingomonas wittichii BP14P, in WWTP sludge with the capability to completely degrade BP3 in 7 days on a growth dependent manner. Strain BP14P utilized BP3 as the sole energy and carbon source, showing specificity in degrading BP3 compared to other UV filters. Further research is needed to understand the factors contributing to this specificity and to assess the long-term environmental impact of BP3.

The influence of sodium phosphate buffer on the stability of various proteins: Insights into protein-buffer interactions

Pannuru Pavani et al.

Summary: The study shows that PBS buffer can protect the stability of various proteins, with different proteins reacting differently to the buffer. PBS has the potential to stabilize the structure of HSA. The efficacy of protein stabilization depends on the type and concentration of buffer used.

A core seed endophytic bacterial community in the hyperaccumulator Noccaea caerulescens across 14 sites in France

Alexis Durand et al.

Summary: Through 16S rRNA metabarcoding, a large SEB core microbiome including the main phyla and sub-phyla was identified in seeds from 14 populations of Noccaea caerulescens, with the main factors driving SEB diversity being the plants' genetics. The distinction between populations based on calamine soils and nonmetalliferous soils did not explain the SEB communities' structural dissimilarities, with the plant's genetic subunit being the main explanatory factor. Further research using transcriptomic approaches should investigate the ecological roles of SEB communities and their role in hyperaccumulators' adaptation to metalliferous soils.
