The Carrot Phytoene Synthase 2 (DcPSY2) Promotes Salt Stress Tolerance through a Positive Regulation of Abscisic Acid and Abiotic-Related Genes in Nicotiana tabacum

Orlando Acevedo et al.

Summary: The DcPSY2 gene from carrot can increase the content of total carotenoids and chlorophyll a in transgenic tobacco, and promote the accumulation of phytoene in the T(1)L6 line. After experiencing salt stress, transgenic tobacco with DcPSY2 gene showed increased expression of the gene, higher survival rate, and up-regulated expression of endogenous carotenogenic and abiotic stress-related genes, as well as increased ABA levels.

The major trimeric antenna complexes serve as a site for qH-energy dissipation in plants

Pierrick Bru et al.

Summary: Plants and algae face the challenge of balancing the utilization of light energy for metabolic needs and dissipating excess light to prevent photodamage. Research has shown that chlorophyll fluorescence lifetimes are decreased in antenna complexes, suggesting they may serve as sites for energy dissipation through qH. The study also tentatively suggests that the energy-dissipative state may stem from Chl-Chl excitonic interaction.

Changes in Carotenoid Concentration and Expression of Carotenoid Biosynthesis Genes in Daucus carota Taproots in Response to Increased Salinity

Yu-Han Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that salt stress can stimulate the biosynthesis of carotenoids in carrots and different carrot cultivars have different responses to salt stress. The accumulation of carotenoids in the taproots of 'KRD' and 'BHJS' is mainly related to the variation in DcLCYE and DcCHXB1 transcripts.

Exploring the Diversity and Regulation of Apocarotenoid Metabolic Pathways in Plants

Xiongjie Zheng et al.

Summary: Carotenoids in plants undergo enzymatic and non-enzymatic reactions to produce various apocarotenoids, which play crucial roles in plant growth, development, and responses to environmental stimuli. These apocarotenoids also contribute to the color and flavor of flowers and fruits, with some utilized in food and cosmetic industries and possessing health-promoting properties.
