H2O2 alleviates salt stress effects on photochemical efficiency and photosynthetic pigments of cotton genotypes

Luana L. de S. A. Veloso et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of irrigation with waters of different electrical conductivities and foliar applications of hydrogen peroxide on the concentrations of photosynthetic pigments and quantum yield of naturally colored cotton genotypes. The results showed that high electrical conductivity water and high concentration hydrogen peroxide reduced the concentrations of photosynthetic pigments, but did not damage the efficiency of photosystem II.

Influence of Foliar Application of Hydrogen Peroxide on Gas Exchange, Photochemical Efficiency, and Growth of Soursop under Salt Stress

Jessica Dayanne Capitulino et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the effects of saline water irrigation and foliar hydrogen peroxide application on the gas exchange, quantum yield, and development of soursop plants. The results showed that high electrical conductivity of irrigation water inhibited stomatal conductance, internal CO2 concentration, transpiration, maximum fluorescence, crown height, and vegetative vigor index of the plants. However, applying hydrogen peroxide at a concentration of 30 μM resulted in increased stomatal conductance.

Differential regulation of reactive oxygen species in dimorphic chloroplasts of single cell C4 plant Bienertia sinuspersici during drought and salt stress

Baris Uzilday et al.

Summary: Single-cell C-4 (SCC4) plants, such as Bienertia sinuspersici, have fully functional C-4 photosynthesis in a single cell, making them promising materials for genetic engineering in C-3 crops. The responsiveness of the enzymatic antioxidant system, H2O2 and TBARS contents, and redox regulating proteins in the peripheral compartment (PC) and central compartment (CC) chloroplasts of Bienertia sinuspersici were examined under salinity and drought stress. The results showed that PC chloroplasts (PCC) were less damaged by stress compared to CC chloroplasts (CCC), suggesting that PCC is more tolerant to oxidative damage.

Root dynamic growth strategies in response to salinity

Yutao Zou et al.

Summary: Plants respond to salinity stress by remodelling root system architecture, with recent research focusing on the mechanisms of root growth responses under salt stress. The modulation of root branching, root tropisms, and root cell wall modifications under salinity stress provide insights into plant performance, with natural variation approaches revealing potential pathways for enhancing salt stress responses in crops. These findings enhance our understanding of how salt influences root phenotype and offer possibilities for engineering crops with improved yield and survival in saline soils.

Gas exchange and yellow passion fruit production under irrigation strategies using brackish water and potassium

Francisco Wesley Alves Pinheiro et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of irrigation with brackish water and doses of potassium on gas exchange and production in yellow passion fruit. Results showed that irrigation with high salinity water reduced leaf water potential, leaf osmotic potential, stomatal conductance, transpiration, and rate of CO2 assimilation. Continuous salt stress also compromised fruit production in yellow passion fruit.

Jailton Garcia Ramos et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of saline water irrigation and foliar application of hydrogen peroxide on sour passion fruit. The results showed that irrigation with saline water decreased chlorophyll content in sour passion fruit, while moderate concentration of hydrogen peroxide stimulated chlorophyll biosynthesis and mitigated the damage caused by salt stress. Additionally, salt stress had no significant effect on the photosystem II of sour passion fruit.
