Increasing the appropriate seedling density for higher yield in dry direct-seeded rice sown by a multifunctional seeder after wheat-straw return

Tian Jin-yu et al.

Summary: Dry direct-seeded rice (DDR) sown using a multifunctional seeder is efficient and environmentally friendly. However, it may lead to lower yields in a rice-wheat rotation system due to poor seedling establishment. Field experiments showed that increasing seedling density improved the proportion of main stem panicle in DDR, resulting in higher yields. The optimum seedling density for achieving maximum yield was predicted to be 260-290 seedlings m(-2).

Analysis of yield constraints and seasonal solar radiation and temperature limits for stable cultivation of dry direct-seeded rice in northeastern Japan

Mari Namikawa et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the limiting factors of rice production in cool regions by examining the quantitative relationships among spikelet density, canopy cover, and solar radiation. The results show that enhancing canopy cover and considering solar radiation conditions are key to successfully promoting dry direct-seeded rice in northeastern Japan.

Effects of different mechanical direct seeding methods on grain yield and lodging resistance of early indica rice in South China

Wang Wen-xia et al.

Summary: The study found that annual grain yield in DDS was higher than in WDS and FDS, mainly due to improvements in panicles. DDS significantly increased seedling emergence rate and promoted total dry weight and crop growth rate of early indica rice cultivars. Shorter basal internodes, better stem diameter and wall thickness, and lower lodging index were observed in DDS compared to FDS and WDS, indicating an improvement in stem lodging resistance.
