Zhenzhen Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a molecular engineering strategy was used to simultaneously achieve high degree of functionalization and large BET in conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) as an effective uranium adsorbent. The PePy-SO3H adsorbent, which contains a pyrene-based monomer with extended pi-conjugation degree and high rigidity, exhibited strong affinity toward uranium with a distribution coefficient of 2.3 x 104 mL g-1 and an exceptionally high adsorption capacity of 579.0 mg g-1. This work demonstrates the advantages of molecular engineering strategies in optimizing the purification performance of CMPs adsorbents for uranium-containing wastewater.

Transferring waste red mud into ferric oxide decorated ANA-type zeolite for multiple heavy metals polluted soil remediation

Dazhong Yang et al.

Summary: A novel waste reclamation strategy has been developed for soil remediation, converting alkaline waste red mud into ferric oxide decorated zeolite for heavy metal polluted soil. The addition of Fe2O3-ANA effectively suppresses heavy metal mobility in soil and reduces bioaccumulation concentrations in harvested crops. The mechanism study identifies the adsorption and trapping of heavy metals in the zeolite structure via cation exchange process, providing a valuable approach for waste resource recycling and environmental conservation.

Pyrolysis characteristics and stage division of red mud waste from the alumina refining process for cyclic utilization

Wenlu Chen et al.

Summary: Red mud is an industrial waste from alumina refining process that not only occupies land resources but also pollutes the environment. Understanding its pyrolysis characteristics and kinetics is crucial for its proper disposal. Through experiments and modeling, three stages of red mud pyrolysis and their corresponding reaction mechanisms were identified. These findings are of great importance for co-pyrolysis or co-combustion of red mud.
