Degradation of rhodamine B by persulfate activated with green tea iron nanoparticles

Yanyan Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, green iron tea nanoparticles (GT-Fe NPs) were used as persulfate (PS) activators to oxidize rhodamine B (RhB). Under optimized conditions (0.033 mM Fe, 5 mM PS, pH 3.0, 298 K), with an initial RhB content of 50 mg/L, 99% of RhB reduction was achieved after 120 min of degradation using GT-Fe NPs activated PS, compared to 98% reduction with PS activated by citric acid-Fe2+ (CA-Fe) using the same amount of Fe2+. The addition of GT-Fe NPs promoted the synthesis of OH• and SO4• while inhibiting the formation of O-2•. The possible degradation pathway of RhB involved chromophore destruction and ring-opening processes, forming low molecular weight carboxylic acids such as oxalic acid, lactic acid, acetic acid, and formic acid.

Comparison of the efficiencies of pyrite and zero-valent iron activated peroxydisulfate systems to degrade methomyl in water

Waseem Hayat et al.

Summary: The degradation of methomyl in water was investigated using peroxydisulfate (PDS) oxidation with pyrite (PyR) and zero-valent iron (ZVI) as activators. The PyR/PDS and ZVI/PDS systems achieved 98.8% and 97.5% degradation of 20.0 mg/L MET in 20 minutes, respectively, when using 0.25 g/L PyR/ZVI and 1.0 mmol/L PDS. The degradation efficiency was enhanced by increasing the dosage of activators and oxidant concentration. The stability and applicability of the PyR/PDS system were lower compared to the ZVI/PDS system.

Eco-friendly green synthesis approach and evaluation of environmental and biological applications of iron oxide nanoparticles

Durga Devi Suppiah et al.

Summary: Metal and metal oxide nanoparticles can be produced using natural extracts instead of chemicals. Plant extraction techniques have advantages for industrial production due to their simplicity and environmental friendliness. Phytochemicals play a significant role in the synthesis reactions and can act as capping, reducing, and stabilizing agents. This green synthesis route is cost-effective and does not require expensive or hazardous chemicals. The review paper explores different green iron oxide nanoparticles and their potential applications in photocatalysis and biological activities.

Nitrate adsorption using green iron oxide nanoparticles synthesized by Eucalyptus leaf extracts: Kinetics and effects of pH, KCl salt, and anions competition

Ehsan Khoshkalam et al.

Summary: This research studied the stability and reactivity of green iron oxide nanoparticles (EL-Fe NPs) synthesized from Eucalyptus globulus leaf extract in removing NO3- ions from polluted water. Various characterization techniques were used to analyze the EL-Fe NPs, and the effect of different factors such as contact time, pH, KCl salt, and anions on the adsorption of NO3- by EL-Fe NPs was evaluated. The results showed that EL-Fe NPs had irregular nano-particulate structures and exhibited strong adsorption capacity for NO3- at certain conditions, but the adsorption was influenced by pH, salt concentration, and the presence of phosphate ions.

Summary: This study aims to determine whether plant extracts can effectively replace traditional chemical reagents to prepare iron nanoparticles (Fe NPs) for the degradation of TBBPA in soil. The results showed that Fe NPs synthesized from leaf extracts of Tung tree, Aspen, and Holly can effectively activate potassium permanganate to degrade TBBPA in soil. Among them, Fe NPs synthesized from Tung tree leaf extracts exhibited the highest removal efficiency (82.07%), the fastest reaction rate (0.14 h-1), and the least impact on environmental factors.
