The Butugol Block: A Precambrian Exotic Block in the Basement of the Tuva-Mongolian Microcontinent (Eastern Sayan)

S. I. Shkolnik et al.

Summary: The age and composition of rocks from the Butugol Block in the Tuva-Mongolian microcontinent of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt have been determined using isotope-geochronological and geochemical data. It was found that the protolith for gneisses consisted of volcanic rocks or potassium meta-sedimentary rocks accumulated in continental marginal basins. The metavolcanogenic rocks were formed during the Mesoproterozoic and Neoproterozoic periods, while the metasedimentary rocks originated from Mesoproterozoic, Paleoproterozoic, and Archean continental sources. The development of the Butugol metamorphic complex differs from other blocks in the Tuva-Mongolian microcontinent.

Summary: This study reports the first radiogenic Nd-Sr isotope data in the magmatic rocks island-arc ophiolite assemblage from the middle branch of the East Sayan ophiolite complexes. The results provide valuable insights into the geodynamic processes in this region of southern central Siberia, showing different sources and formation processes for different geochemical types of magmatic rocks.

Melt Migration and Interaction in a Dunite Channel System within Oceanic Forearc Mantle: the Yushigou Harzburgite-Dunite Associations, North Qilian Ophiolite (NW China)

Xiang Zhou et al.

Summary: The Harzburgite-dunite associations in the Yushigou ophiolitic complex provide insights into melt migration and melt-rock interaction above a subduction zone. A three-stage model has been proposed to describe the history of melt channel formation in the oceanic arc mantle, revealing the complex processes involved in the interaction between multiple batches of melt or fluid and a lithospheric mantle wedge dunitic channel system.

Mineralogical and isotopic peculiarities of high-Cr chromitites: Implications for a mantle convection genesis of the Bulqiza ophiolite

Fahui Xiong et al.

Summary: A variety of inclusions recovered from the chromitites of the Bulqiza ophiolite in Albania suggest a complex origin process, possibly involving the incorporation of crustal and ultra-high pressure phases into the mantle through convection or subduction. The formation of inclusions under high-temperature, high-pressure conditions is consistent with factors such as a supra-subduction zone environment, heterogeneous depleted mantle materials, and the addition of crustal materials.

What can we learn from REE abundances in clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene in residual mantle peridotites?

Yan Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the REE abundance in clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene in residual spinel peridotites to understand mantle processes. It concluded that deducing melting parameters from bulk peridotite samples is more reliable than from clinopyroxene alone, and highlighted the different susceptibility of HREE in clinopyroxene and LREE in orthopyroxene to subsolidus redistribution.

Deserpentinization in Subduction Zones as a Source of Oxidation in Arcs: a Reality Check

Katy A. Evans et al.

Summary: Previous studies suggest that dehydration of serpentinites in subduction zones produces oxidizing fluids, affecting the formation of oxidized arc magmas. This study examines factors that complicate the interpretation of these conclusions, including the variability of serpentinite protoliths, the roles of carbon and sulfur, and differences in serpentinization across different tectonic settings. The research also investigates the potential of serpentinite-derived fluids to oxidize sub-arc magma.

Summary: The study presents new empirical nonlinear barometric and thermometric models to improve the accuracy of clinopyroxene-only thermobarometry, with superior performance in basaltic to dacitic magma systems. The new models were validated through calibration experiments and showed promising results, indicating their potential as a powerful tool for understanding the crystallization conditions of clinopyroxenes in mafic to intermediate magmas.
