Antibiotic Drug Resistance Pattern of Uropathogens in Pediatric Patients in Pakistani Population

Zakia Iqbal et al.

Summary: The common prevalent diseases in the age of 0 to 6 are related to urinary tract infections, which if not properly diagnosed, can lead to complications in the urological and nephrological systems. Uropathogens have developed resistance to most drugs, making treatment more difficult. A study conducted in two hospitals in Lahore collected 39,750 male and female samples, identifying Escherichia and Klebsiella in 234 samples. Female samples had a higher number of uropathogens compared to males. Antibiotic resistance testing revealed that colistin sulphate and polymyxin B were the most effective against Klebsiella and Escherichia strains.

Summary: ATLAS detects trends in multi-drug resistance over time. This study analyzed the in vitro activity of ceftazidime-avibactam against Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates in India. The results showed that ceftazidime-avibactam had high susceptibility against these bacteria, particularly in strains with the OXA-48 like genotype.

OXA-48 Carbapenemase-Encoding Transferable Plasmids of Klebsiella pneumoniae Recovered from Egyptian Patients Suffering from Complicated Urinary Tract Infections

Ann A. Elshamy et al.

Summary: Gram-negative bacteria are common causes of urinary tract infections (UTIs) and can exhibit resistance to carbapenems. This study found a relatively high rate of carbapenem resistance among Gram-negative bacteria causing UTIs in Cairo, Egypt, with the ability for this resistance to be horizontally transferred to other bacterial hosts.

Spectrum of antibiotic resistance in UTI caused by Escherichia coli among HIV-infected patients in Uganda: a cross-sectional study

George Abongomera et al.

Summary: The study identified Escherichia coli as the most common uropathogen among HIV infected patients, showing varying degrees of susceptibility towards antibiotics. Nitrofurantoin was recommended as the first-line antibiotic for non-complicated UTIs, while significant resistance to ciprofloxacin and ceftriaxone was observed. Further investigation is needed to understand the reasons behind the low bacterial growth rate in urine cultures.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of NDM-1-producing multidrug-resistant Proteus mirabilis strains in commercial broilers in China. The results showed that these isolates were resistant to multiple antibiotics, with some carrying NDM-1 genes on transferable plasmids. The genomic analysis indicated diverse genetic backgrounds among the isolates, suggesting a potential threat to the environment and public health.
