Assessment of Hemp Seed Oil Quality Pressed from Fresh and Stored Seeds of Henola Cultivar Using Differential Scanning Calorimetry

Mahbuba Islam et al.

Summary: Cold-pressed hemp seed oil from stored and fresh hemp seeds of the Henola cultivar were analyzed to determine their differences in acid value, color, peroxide value, p-anisidine value, fatty acid composition, and thermo-oxidative stability. The results showed significant differences in acid value and color between the two groups, while there were no significant differences in peroxide value, p-anisidine value, and fatty acid composition. The thermo-oxidative stability assessment showed no significant differences in oxidation induction time and onset temperature between the two groups of oils.

Influence of Seeds' Age and Clarification of Cold-Pressed Raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) Oil on the DSC Oxidative Stability and Phase Transition Profiles

Yolanda Victoria Rajagukguk et al.

Summary: After cold-pressing and cold filtration, there are still seed residues in raspberry seed oil (RSO). The removal of these residues can improve the visual properties of RSO. The study found that the centrifugation process reduces the oxidative stability of RSO, regardless of the age of the seeds. However, there were no significant differences in the melting and crystallization properties of RSO after clarification by centrifugation.

Lipidomic characteristics of three edible cold-pressed oils by LC/Q-TOF for simple quality and authenticity assurance

Anna Kozub et al.

Summary: Distinguishing between oil samples is challenging but crucial for food quality assurance and prevention of adulteration. Lipidomic profiling provides sufficient information for confident identification and routine authenticity testing of camelina, flax, and hemp oil. By conducting di-and triacylglycerol profiling, a marker panel of 27 lipids was established to verify the quality and authenticity of the oils. Additionally, potential adulterants such as sunflower, rapeseed, and soybean oils were analyzed, revealing 6 lipid markers that can detect adulteration of camelina, hemp, and flax seed oils.

Chemical Characteristics and Thermal Oxidative Stability of Novel Cold-Pressed Oil Blends: GC, LF NMR, and DSC Studies

Wojciech Cichocki et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the health properties and degradation of eight new oil blends with a beneficial ratio of ω6 to ω3 fatty acids during heating. The results showed an increase in polar compounds content during heating, mainly due to the polymerization of triacylglycerols forming dimers. However, the polar fraction content of the blends did not exceed the limit, indicating high nutritional value and oxidative stability for use in food production, particularly for products that provide adequate ω3 fatty acids.

DSC isothermal and non-isothermal assessment of thermo-oxidative stability of different cultivars of Camelina sativa L. seed oils

Mahbuba Islam et al.

Summary: There is growing interest worldwide in the use of camelina oil for food as well as for biofuel purposes. This study aimed to investigate the thermal resistance to oxidation of three different cultivars of camelina oil. Isothermal and non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to measure the oxidation of the oils. The results showed that the thermal stability of the oil was negatively correlated with the content of unsaturated fatty acids and positively correlated with color and radical scavenging activity.

Polymorphism of a Highly Asymmetrical Triacylglycerol in Milk Fat: 1-Butyryl 2-Stearoyl 3-Palmitoyl-glycerol

Yoga Pratama et al.

Summary: This study elucidates the crystallization behavior of asymmetrical milk fat TAGs using the pure compound BuSP, revealing that BuSP initially crystallizes into the alpha-form at 20 degrees C, then transforms into the beta ' phase after 4 hours, with the beta '-polymorph being the most stable observed form in BuSP.

Differential scanning calorimetry for authentication of edible fats and oils-What can we learn from the past to face the current challenges?

Mahbuba Islam et al.

Summary: Authentication of fats and oils, particularly cold-pressed oils, has become an important issue. This review article focuses on the application of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in assessing the authenticity of various fats and oils. The use of melting profiles, analyzed with chemometric tools, shows promising results for authentication purposes.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the thermal properties of selected cultivars of flaxseed oil using the DSC technique. Findings revealed characteristics of crystallization and melting profiles, as well as the influence of temperature and heating rate on the stability of flaxseed oil during thermal oxidation. Negative correlations were observed between unsaturated fatty acid content and thermal properties.
