Simultaneous Determination of Tetrodotoxin in the Fresh and Heat-Processed Aquatic Products by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Hongli Ye et al.

Summary: Tetrodotoxin (TTX) was detected in both fresh and heat-processed aquatic products using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. A sensitive determination method was established based on optimized parameters, featuring a good linear relationship (R-2 = 0.9998) between signal and TTX concentration, a wide detection range (0.2-100 ng/g), and a low detection limit (0.2 ng/g). The accuracy and reliability of the method were confirmed by spiked assays with recoveries of 90.5-107.2%. This developed method was successfully applied to the determination of TTX in various fresh and heat-processed aquatic products.

Simple and fast determination of tetrodotoxin in human plasma based on hydrophilic-interaction/ion-exchange mixed-mode solid phase extraction combined with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectroscopy

Liang Xin et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple, fast, and sensitive LC-MS/MS method was developed and validated for measuring tetrodotoxin (TTX) in human plasma. Different solid phase extraction (SPE) carriers with different functional groups were compared, and the Siphila i HILIX SPE plate with multi-carboxyl groups was selected for better extraction recovery of TTX. The method avoids the evaporation and ultrafiltration processes, making it simple, time-saving, and effective for analyzing TTX in plasma.

First occurrence of tetrodotoxins in bivalve mollusks from Northern Adriatic Sea (Italy)

Paola Bordin et al.

Summary: Tetrodotoxins are a potent neurotoxin with potentially fatal effects if ingested by humans. Recently, significant amounts of tetrodotoxins were detected in mussels collected in a specific area of the Northern Adriatic Sea in Italy, with the highest concentration ever found in mollusks in Europe.

Distribution of Tetrodotoxin in Pacific Oysters (Crassostrea gigas)

Monika Dhanji-Rapkova et al.

Summary: A potent and heat-stable toxin, TTX, accumulates in various marine bivalve species, including Pacific oysters, with the highest concentrations found in the digestive gland. TTX levels vary significantly between different geographical locations and within populations of oysters, suggesting high variability in toxin distribution.

Simultaneous determination of ten paralytic shellfish toxins and tetrodotoxin in scallop and short-necked clam by ion-pair solid-phase extraction and hydrophilic interaction chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry

Naoki Ochi

Summary: A simple and effective clean-up procedure was developed for the simultaneous determination of ten paralytic shellfish toxins and tetrodotoxin in scallop and short-necked clam samples. The method showed minimal matrix effects and allowed quantification of the toxins through simple external calibration.
