Non-destructive evaluation of the edible rate for pomelo using X-ray imaging method

Yuchen Zhang et al.

Summary: The X-ray imaging method can be used to nondestructively evaluate the edible rate and flesh content of 'Hongrou' pomelos and 'Guanxi' pomelos. Multiple linear regression models were established using region area ratio and gray level logarithmic sum to quantify the edible rate and flesh content. The results showed high accuracy in predicting the edible rate and flesh content, as well as classifying the edible rate of pomelos using X-ray images.

Can light penetrate through pomelos and carry information for the non-destructive prediction of soluble solid content using Vis-NIRS?

Hao Tian et al.

Summary: This study investigated the penetration depth of light and the distribution of components inside pomelos to improve the accuracy of predicting soluble solids content (SSC) using visible-near infrared spectroscopy (Vis-NIRS). Three different modes of puncture measurement were conducted, and the asymmetrical changes and distribution of light intensity were observed in tissues. The semi-transmittance mode combined with the limited penetration depth and SSC distribution characteristics in pomelo was adopted. Multi-point spectra in the semi-transmittance mode were used to evaluate the influence of asymmetrical light and SSC distribution on models. The models established by mean spectra showed good performance in eliminating the difference in light distribution. The effective wavelengths were selected using competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) to establish the calibration model. The global model of CARS-PLSR using mean spectra and mean SSC of six points achieved the best performance with low root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) and residual predictive deviation (RPD) values. Overall, multi-point detection in the semi-transmittance mode allowed non-destructive prediction of SSC in pomelo by weakening distribution difference caused by biological variability.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of spectra collection orientations and regions on online soluble solid content (SSC) prediction models for peaches. The results showed that spectra collected in both orientations were suitable for prediction. Spectra from regions without peach pit provided better modeling performance.

Rapid Detection of Pomelo Fruit Quality Using Near-Infrared Hyperspectral Imaging Combined With Chemometric Methods

Huazhou Chen et al.

Summary: Advanced chemometric methods were investigated for the detection of pomelo fruit quality using near-infrared hyperspectral imaging (NIRHI) technology. The proposed RBF-PLS model was optimized for parameter scaling and showed good predictive accuracy for sugar, vitamin C, and organic acid content in pomelo samples. The combination of NIRHI technology and chemometric methods is applicable for rapid quantitative detection of pomelo fruit quality, with potential for detection in other agricultural products.
