Effects of dietary supplementation with phytobiotic encapsulated plant extracts on broilers' performance parameters, welfare traits and meat characteristics

Stella Dokou et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of aqueous or cyclodextrin extracts on broiler growth performance, welfare, meat composition, and oxidative stability. The cyclodextrin treated group showed higher final body weight and both treatment groups had lower pododermatitis score. Thigh meat protein content increased and fat content decreased in both treatment groups, and meat color was also improved. The supplementation of broilers diet with cyclodextrin extract increased n-3 and n-6 fatty acids content, as well as PUFA/SFA and H/H ratios in thigh meat.

Synergistic effect of long-term feed deprivation and temperature on the cellular physiology of meagre (Argyrosomus regius)

Konstantinos Feidantsis et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of prolonged feed deprivation and water temperature on the antioxidant defense system and apoptotic pathway in meagre fish. The results showed that long term feed deprivation and temperature variations induced oxidative stress and triggered the antioxidant defense and apoptotic machinery in meagre fish. The most significant variations were observed at temperatures below 20°C and above 23°C.

Summary: This study investigates the developmental stages-specific shift in critical signaling pathways of reared S. dumerili. The activation of IGF-1R plays an important role in mediating various developmental pathways, including hypertrophic signaling, MAPK phosphorylation, apoptosis, and autophagy. Furthermore, morphogenetic rearrangements and energy consumption were observed during the hatching process.

Fighting Fat With Fat: n-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Adipose Deposition in Broiler Chickens

Minjeong Kim et al.

Summary: Modern broiler chickens accumulate more adipose tissue than is necessary due to selection for rapid growth, which can compromise well-being and waste feed. Studies show that diet rich in Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) can inhibit fat accretion by influencing adipose tissue growth and metabolism. Efforts to reduce fat accretion in broilers by enriching the diet in n-3 PUFA have shown promising results.

Dietary Pomegranate By-Product Alleviated the Oxidative Stress Induced by Dexamethasone in Laying Hens in the Pre-Peak Period

Yahya Eid et al.

Summary: This study utilized pomegranate peels as dietary additives to mitigate oxidative stress in laying hens, resulting in improved weight, egg production, reduced cholesterol and triglyceride levels, decreased lipid peroxidation, and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity. The research suggests that dietary pomegranate peels at up to 4% can be a sustainable and economical approach to alleviate oxidative stress effects in laying hens.

Energy metabolism disorder mediated ammonia gas-induced autophagy via AMPK/mTOR/ULK1-Beclin1 pathway in chicken livers

Zhuo Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the toxic effects of ammonia gas on chicken liver, revealing damage to mitochondrial and autophagy in chicken liver tissue cells, as well as disruption of energy metabolism. Exposure to excess ammonia gas induced autophagy in chicken livers, with the AMPK/mTOR/ULK1-Beclin1 pathway playing a role in this process. Dose-dependent and time-dependent effects were observed on all detected indexes in ammonia gas-induced chicken liver cell damage.

Pomegranate peel as a phytogenic in broiler chickens: Influence upon antioxidant, lipogenesis and hypotensive response

Behnam Ahmadipour et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of pomegranate peel on antioxidant, antihyperlipidemic, and hypotensive properties in broiler chickens. It was found that supplementation of pomegranate peel at 7.5 and 10 g/kg resulted in improved antioxidant status, decreased lipid peroxidation, reduced fat deposition, and lowered serum triglycerides and cholesterol levels. Additionally, pomegranate peel exhibited hypotensive effects by reducing heart weight, ventricular weight ratio, and mortality from pulmonary hypertension, possibly through increased nitric oxide concentration. These findings suggest that pomegranate peel could be a beneficial feed additive for broiler chickens exposed to hypobaric hypoxia.
