Trend analysis and prediction of seasonal changes in milk composition from a pasture-based dairy research herd

E. Hayes et al.

Summary: The composition of seasonal pasture-produced milk is influenced by lactation stage and diet. The study shows that from 2012 to 2020, the levels of crude protein, casein, fat, and solids in the milk increased, while lactose concentration peaked in 2017 and then decreased. Forecasting models were successfully created to predict milk composition based on seasonal data, and extreme weather conditions were found to affect grass growth and nonprotein nitrogen levels in milk. This study demonstrates the importance of considering seasonal changes and their impact on milk composition in pasture-based systems.

Non-destructive quality determination of frozen food using NIR spectroscopy-based machine learning and predictive modelling

Qiyong Jiang et al.

Summary: This study developed a model food product as the test material and applied different modeling methods to establish the relationship between near-infrared spectra and quality indicators of frozen food. Principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis results showed good distinctions among NIR spectra based on different moisture content. The modeling results demonstrated that BP-ANN algorithm performed the best in predicting the quality indicators of frozen samples with higher R2 and lower RMSE.

Lipidomics in milk: recent advances and developments

Zhiqian Liu et al.

Summary: Lipids are a major component of milk and recent advancements in identifying molecular species, elucidating deep structure, and quantifying accurately have been made. Over 4000 lipid species have been identified in bovine milk, and progress has been made in determining the position and bond location of milk phospholipids. Using multiple standards with isotopic correction is necessary for accurate lipid quantification. Branched- and odd-chain fatty acids in milk have gained attention due to their potential health benefits. Milk lipidomics shows promise in discovering biomarkers for mastitis and heat stress in dairy cows.

Generalized Savitzky-Golay filter for smoothing triangular meshes

Gabor Fabian

Summary: In this paper, the well-known Savitzky-Golay filter is extended to three-dimensional triangular meshes for smoothing noisy measurement signals. The original idea of locally polynomial model fitting is naturally adapted for smoothing functions defined on irregular two-dimensional triangular meshes. The focus is on surfaces represented by three-dimensional triangular meshes, which are locally homeomorphic to the two-dimensional topological disk. The generalized filter is defined on the plane, and local embeddings are used to pair the points of the two-dimensional disk and the three-dimensional surface, allowing for fitting low-degree multidimensional polynomials and obtaining a similar continuous model. The method is applied for mesh smoothing and compared to other mesh smoothing methods.

Non-destructive identification of moldy walnut based on NIR

Minhui An et al.

Summary: In this study, a prediction model of walnut mold was established using near-infrared spectroscopy to achieve non-destructive detection. Various preprocessing methods were used to extract features from the spectra, and SVM and ELM models were developed, both achieving 100% accuracy in identifying moldy walnuts. An online identification system was also built to automate the process. The results show that the model accurately predicts moldy walnuts, and the non-destructive nature of the method provides an advantage over traditional shell-breaking methods.

Compare the nutritional status of essential minerals in milk of different cattle and humans: Estimated daily intake for children

Fazeela Kandhro et al.

Summary: This study compared the levels of electrolytes and essential trace elements in milk samples from different cattle species and humans, finding variations in the content of these elements among different animal species, with human milk having the lowest concentrations except for selenium. Additionally, there were differences in the percentage of elements in whey compared to total milk samples across different species.
