Integrated proteomics and metabolomics analysis revealed the mechanisms underlying the effect of irradiation on the fat quality of Chinese bacon

Ju Zhang et al.

Summary: This study explored the influence of irradiation on Chinese bacon using proteomic and metabolomic analysis. The results revealed 24 proteins and 40 differential metabolites involved in metabolism and enriched in signaling pathways. It was found that irradiation altered shared pathways between the proteome and metabolome, including lipid metabolism pathways. These findings provide a foundation for multi-omics research on the effects of irradiation on Chinese bacon quality, aiding in quality assessment and standardization strategies.

Transcriptomic analysis provides insights into the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles in the ricefield eel (Monopterus albus)

Feiyan Meng et al.

Summary: The study investigates the regulation of oocyte growth and maturation in the ricefield eel, which has become an important aquaculture species in China. The researchers classified the development of ricefield eel ovarian follicles into nine stages and performed transcriptomic analysis on isolated ovarian follicles from different stages. The study identifies several genes and pathways that may be involved in oocyte growth and maturation in ricefield eels.

Ovary transcriptomic analysis reveals regulation effects of dietary fish oil on hormone, lipid, and glucose metabolism in female adult spotted scat (Scatophagus argus)

Tuo Wang et al.

Summary: This study reveals that dietary fish oil can promote ovary development in female spotted scat, leading to increased estrogen levels and higher maturity. Transcriptome sequencing analysis indicates that fish oil can influence the expression of genes related to hormone, glucose, and lipid metabolism.

Transcriptomic analysis reveals yolk accumulation mechanism from the hepatopancreas to ovary in the pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei

Zhi Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the gene expression related to nutritional accumulation in Litopenaeus vannamei during ovarian development using transcriptomic analysis. The study finds that the hepatopancreas is the major exogenous vitellogenesis site for ovarian maturation in L. vannamei, with two distinct vitellogenin genes performing exogenous and endogenous vitellogenesis in the hepatopancreas and ovary, respectively.

Intensification, regulation and diversification: The changing face of inland aquaculture in China

Richard Newton et al.

Summary: Consumer tastes in aquatic food are shifting towards a broader menu in Hubei province as their spending power increases. Traditional aquaculture species are becoming less profitable due to increased input costs and changing consumption preferences, leading producers to diversify their production to meet local demand. Additionally, environmental protection legislation is causing wholesale changes in aquaculture production, notably reducing the growing area for carps.

Liver Transcriptomic Analysis of the Effects of Dietary Fish Oil Revealed a Regulated Expression Pattern of Genes in Adult Female Spotted Scat (Scatophagus argus)

Tuo Wang et al.

Summary: This study used transcriptome sequencing to analyze the effect of higher dietary n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3 LC-PUFA) levels on gene expression in the liver of adult female spotted scat. The results showed that high-fish-oil diets can influence the expression of genes related to liver n-3 LC-PUFA metabolism and reproduction, inhibit the accumulation of liver fat, and promote liver health and gonad development.

Xiaochuan Zheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of dietary icariin supplement on glycolipid metabolism and energy metabolism in the Chinese mitten crab during a vital growth stage. The results showed differential expression genes and metabolites related to glycolysis, fatty acid metabolism, and other pathways after icariin supplementation. Activation of key transcription factors by icariin was found to strengthen glycolipid and energy metabolism in E. sinensis.
