Quality of Life in COVID-Related ARDS Patients One Year after Intensive Care Discharge (Odissea Study): A Multicenter Observational Study

Cristian Deana et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in COVID-19 critically ill patients one year after ICU discharge. The findings showed that these patients had lower HRQoL in terms of physical functioning, social functioning, and mental health, with 31.8% of them experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which was closely associated with reduced HRQoL. Female gender, history of cardiovascular disease, liver disease, and length of hospital stay were identified as risk factors for lower HRQoL, while weight gain at follow-up was a risk factor for PTSD.

Ventilatory associated barotrauma in COVID-19 patients: A multicenter observational case control study (COVI-MIX-study)

Luigi Vetrugno et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the impact of different respiratory support strategies on barotrauma in COVID-19 patients and determine the clinical characteristics of patients who experienced barotrauma. The study found that non-invasive ventilation (C-PAP/PSV) increased the risk of barotrauma compared to conventional oxygen therapy or high flow nasal oxygen. The frequency of barotrauma was 1.00% and mainly occurred in patients with severe COVID-19. Barotrauma was independently associated with mortality.

The definition of long COVID used in interventional studies

Alyson Haslam et al.

Summary: There is currently little consensus on the specific definition of long COVID, but various organizations have proposed different definitions. This study aimed to examine the definition of long COVID used in current clinical trials. The findings showed that 54.3% of the studies only confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis through laboratory testing. There were eight different time durations specified for symptom persistence, and a total of 57 symptoms were identified across the studies. Only 8.7% of the trials adhered to NICE or WHO definitions.

Quality of Life During Pregnancy from 2011 to 2021: Systematic Review

Amal Boutib et al.

Summary: This study aims to describe the quality of life during uncomplicated pregnancy and identify its associated factors. The results show that pathological pregnancies have a negative impact on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of pregnant women, with the type of treatment influencing improvement. Obesity, low back and pelvic girdle pain, and hyperemesis gravidarum are common pathologies during pregnancy. Socio-demographic characteristics, favorable economic status, social support, better sleep quality, and moderate physical exercise are associated with an increased quality of life. Physical and psychological factors are associated with a lower quality of life.
