Squamous cell carcinoma arising within hidradenitis suppurativa: a literature review

Summary: This study reviewed the characteristics and outcomes of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) development within chronic hidradenitis suppurativa lesions, finding that the majority of patients were male with SCC primarily occurring in the gluteal, perianal, and genital regions. The average duration between HS onset and SCC development was 25.5 years, with high rates of metastasis and mortality reported in patients, primarily due to metastasis and sepsis. Regular monitoring of chronic HS lesions is essential for timely SCC diagnosis and management.
