EQ-5D full health state after therapy heralds reduced hazard to accrue subsequent organ damage in systemic lupus erythematosus

Julius Lindblom et al.

Summary: This study investigated whether self-reported EQ-5D full health state (FHS) after therapeutic intervention for active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is associated with a reduced risk of accruing organ damage. The findings suggest that FHS and no problems in mobility after therapeutic intervention are associated with a reduced risk of subsequent organ damage, especially musculoskeletal damage.

Do biological agents improve health-related quality of life in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus? Results from a systematic search of the literature

Alvaro Gomez et al.

Summary: Despite the development of various biological therapies for SLE, most randomized clinical trials have not achieved their primary efficacy endpoints. This review focuses on the effect of biological therapies on SLE patients' health-related quality of life and fatigue. Patient-reported outcomes are suggested as useful tools for evaluating the impact of interventions on aspects that are important to patients. The differences between generic and disease-specific PRO measures are discussed, and the need for a combination of both is emphasized to comprehensively capture the patient perspective.

Impact of overweight and obesity on patient-reported health-related quality of life in systemic lupus erythematosus

Alvaro Gomez et al.

Summary: This study found that overweight and obesity in SLE patients can lead to significant decreases in HRQoL in terms of physical, fatigue, and social functioning. Moreover, these impacts become more pronounced with increasing BMI.

Contribution of abnormal BMI to adverse health-related quality of life outcomes after a 52-week therapy in patients with SLE

Alexander Borg et al.

Summary: Overweight and obesity were associated with adverse physical and mental HRQoL outcomes in SLE patients after therapeutic intervention, while underweight was linked to adverse mental HRQoL outcome. Addition of belimumab to standard therapy had a protective effect against adverse general health and severe fatigue.

Adverse Health-Related Quality of Life Outcome Despite Adequate Clinical Response to Treatment in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Alvaro Gomez et al.

Summary: The study revealed that despite achieving adequate clinical response with standard therapy plus belimumab or placebo, a substantial proportion of SLE patients still experienced adverse health-related quality of life (HRQoL) outcomes, with factors such as age, ethnicity, and organ damage contributing to these outcomes. Additional belimumab treatment was associated with lower frequencies of adverse physical functioning and fatigue, suggesting a potential protective effect in improving HRQoL in SLE patients.
