Ti-based robust MOFs in the combined photocatalytic degradation of emerging organic contaminants

Sara Rojas et al.

Summary: This paper introduces the potential of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), specifically titanium-based MOFs (Ti-MOFs), as photocatalysts for water remediation. Through screening, MIL-100(Ti) was identified as the most promising photocatalyst with high efficiency in degrading organic contaminants in water and the safety of its by-products was confirmed. The study also demonstrated the photocatalytic capacity and recyclability of MIL-100(Ti) under realistic conditions using a mixture of contaminants in tap drinking water, further emphasizing its potential in water remediation.

Silver nanoparticles decorated zinc oxide nanorods supported catalyst for photocatalytic degradation of paracetamol

Maryam Awadh Al-Gharibi et al.

Summary: The study showed that under visible light irradiation, ZnO-Ag catalyst exhibited higher photocatalytic activity in the degradation of paracetamol, possibly due to efficient charge separation, visible light absorption, and reduced recombination of electron and hole. Additionally, ZnO-Ag demonstrated high stability, with only a slight decrease in degradation performance after multiple cycles.

Innovative sequential combination of fixed bed adsorption/desorption and photocatalysis cost-effective process to remove antibiotics in solution

Sarra Karoui et al.

Summary: This paper developed a Reed-based composite beads combined with photocatalysis for the oxidative degradation of fluoroquinolones ciprofloxacin in simulated hospital wastewater. The study focused on adsorbing CIP solution on the beads, regenerating the material for reusing, and degrading the antibiotic solution using continuous and batch photocatalytic reactors. The results provide new insight into effectively mineralizing antibiotics with continuous treatment.

An engineering approach towards the design of an innovative compact photo-reactor for antibiotic removal in the frame of laboratory and pilot-plant scale

Amira Almansba et al.

Summary: An innovative compact photoreactor was designed and tested for the degradation of Flumequine antibiotic, consisting of luminous and photocatalytic fibers woven together. The luminous textile showed significantly higher degradation rate, mineralization per Watt consumed, and compactness compared to conventional processes, making it an attractive alternative for the removal of antibiotics in water and wastewater.
