A dual-scale deep learning model based on ELM-BiLSTM and improved reptile search algorithm for wind power prediction

Jinlin Xiong et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a hybrid model that combines CEEMD, SE, RF, IRSA, BiLSTM network, and ELM for wind power prediction. By decomposing the original wind power sequence using CEEMD and aggregating with SE, the computational complexity is reduced. Further elimination of redundant features is done through RF feature selection. The BiLSTM model and the ELM model are used to forecast high and low-frequency components respectively. IRSA is employed to optimize the model's parameters. The results show that the proposed dual-scale ensemble model of BiLSTM and ELM achieves better prediction accuracy, reducing the RMSE by more than 10% compared to benchmark models.

Comparing filter and wrapper approaches for feature selection in handwritten character recognition

Nicole Dalia Cilia et al.

Summary: Feature selection is a crucial process in pattern recognition system development, especially in the field of handwriting recognition where the variability of character shape is high. A previous study used a feature-ranking-based technique to overcome limitations in feature subset selection and evaluation. This study extends the previous research by comparing filter and wrapper techniques for feature selection in handwritten character recognition, and the experimental results show similar performances with fewer features and lower computational cost achieved by filter and wrapper approaches.
