DFT study on the effect of functional groups of carbonaceous surface on ammonium adsorption from water

Qianqian Yin et al.

Summary: Results showed that different functional groups on carbon structures have significant effects on the adsorption of ammonium ions, with the carbonyl group being the most favorable for adsorption. Additionally, carbon materials with multiple adjacent functional groups may promote or inhibit the adsorption of ammonium ions due to interactions among functional groups.

Adsorption characteristics of ammonium onto biochar from an aqueous solution

Shamim A. Begum et al.

Summary: The study investigated the removal of ammonium from water using biochar derived from various wood chips. Results showed that higher biochar dosage led to increased removal of ammonium, with the optimum pH for removal considered to be between 6 to 8. The adsorption isotherm followed both the Langmuir and Freundlich models, indicating the potential for biochar to effectively remove ammonium from aqueous solution.
