Decontamination of 2-Chloroethyl ethyl sulfide on the surface by atmospheric pressure plasma jet

Yang Li et al.

Summary: By using atmospheric pressure plasma jet to decontaminate 2-Chloroethyl ethyl sulfide, the chemical pollutant can be completely removed in a relatively short time with reduced toxicity. Helium APPJ was more effective, generating more .OH and slowly raising the skin surface temperature to 30.4 degrees Celsius within 15 minutes without causing damage.

High Efficiency Removal of Sulfur Mustard Surrogate by Cold Plasma Jet

Ruixue Wang et al.

Summary: A novel strategy using pulsed-driven cold plasma jet was proposed for the removal of sulfur mustard surrogate. Under optimal conditions, the plasma treatment achieved high degradation fraction and the degradation products turned into gas products. Short-lived excited species and long-lived reactive species played an important role in the oxidation and mineralization process. This work shed light on the portable design of cold plasma jet for the detoxification of chemical warfare agents.

Chemical warfare agents decontamination via air mircoplasma excited by a triboelectric nanogenerator

Yuan Bai et al.

Summary: A double layer paper-strip rotary triboelectric nanogenerator (dps-rTENG) is fabricated as a self-powered high-voltage device to induce microplasma in air for chemical warfare agents (CWAs) decontamination. The dps-rTENG shows high degradation efficiency and energy utilization efficiency, and the generation of toxic byproducts can be controlled. Triboelectric microplasma provides a new approach for portable decontamination systems.

Preparation of Polymer Composite Selective Permeable Membrane with Graphene Oxide and Application for Chemical Protective Clothing

Haolin Du et al.

Summary: In this study, PVDF sodium sulfonate composite membranes were prepared using low-cost materials and modified graphene oxide (GO-SSS) with different contents. The results showed that the composite membrane with a 0.5% addition ratio of GO-SSS had desirable permeation selectivity and mechanical properties, making it an ideal material for potential applications in CPC.

Organophosphorus toxic compounds degradation in aqueous solutions using single filament dielectric barrier discharge plasma jet source

Sasa-Alexandra Yehia et al.

Summary: In this paper, the degradation of four organophosphorus toxic compounds using an atmospheric pressure DBD plasma source was investigated. Different plasma conditions and treatment times were tested, and the degradation process was characterized using various measurement techniques. The results showed that Ar/N2 plasma treatment exhibited the highest degradation efficiencies for Parathion, Chlorpyrifos, and Dimethyl methylphosphonate, while Ar/compressed air plasma treatment showed relatively good degradation efficiency for Dimethoate.

Ultrafine Silver Nanoparticle Encapsulated Porous Molecular Traps for Discriminative Photoelectrochemical Detection of Mustard Gas Simulants by Synergistic Size-Exclusion and Site-Specific Recognition

Chen Wang et al.

Summary: This study develops a fast and easy method for the rapid, accurate, and portable detection of highly toxic chemical warfare agents by integrating porous molecular traps onto a photoelectrochemical sensor. The nanocomposite materials fabricated in this study show significantly enhanced photocurrent and can selectively recognize various mustard gas simulants. This work indicates that integrating porous molecular traps onto PEC sensors offers a promising strategy to develop portable devices for CWAs detection with high sensitivity and selectivity.

Prefluorescent probe capable of generating active sensing species in situ for detections of sulfur mustard and its simulant

Wei Feng et al.

Summary: In this paper, a stable and sensitive prefluorescent probe, 7-ATCC, was developed for the detection of sulfur mustard and its simulant CEES. The probe showed high sensitivity and selectivity and could detect CEES-contaminated soil and surfaces within 1 minute. Test strips for CEES detection were also prepared and exhibited good sensitivity and selectivity. The results demonstrate the potential practical application of the probe in mustard gas detection.

Synergistic effect of hydrodynamic cavitation and plasma oxidation for the degradation of Rhodamine B dye wastewater

Songlin Nie et al.

Summary: Combining hydrodynamic cavitation with other advanced oxidation methods can effectively improve the degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B dye. The combination of hydrodynamic cavitation and plasma oxidation shows the best degradation effect with a high degradation rate and a synergistic effect. Compared with other combination modes, the combined effect of hydrodynamic cavitation and plasma oxidation has higher degradation efficiency and lower operation cost, making it more suitable for large-scale application.

Decomposition of the Simulant 2-Chloroethyl Ethyl Sulfide Blister Agent under Ambient Conditions Using Metal-Organic Frameworks

Hong-Hyun Kim et al.

Summary: Metal organic frameworks (MOFs), especially UiO-66 and its variant UiO-66S, show promising potential for gas-phase decontamination of both nerve agents and blister agents. The gas-phase chemical adsorption and decomposition of 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (2-CEES) by UiO-66S have been demonstrated for the first time, with an estimated half-life of 1.34 hours, the highest reported value for an MOF in such conditions. This study provides important insights into the use of UiO-66S as a future decontaminant for toxic chemical agents.

Subcellular mechanism of microbial inactivation during water disinfection by cold atmospheric-pressure plasma

Hangbo Xu et al.

Summary: This study revealed the subcellular mechanism of yeast cell inactivation during plasma-liquid interaction in terms of various factors. Results showed that plasma mainly inactivated yeast cells through damaging cell membrane, intracellular redox and ion homeostasis, and energy metabolism, as well as causing DNA fragmentation. The role of different antimicrobial factors in plasma sterilization was investigated, with center dot OH and O-12 contributing most to yeast inactivation.
