The environmental pollutant, polychlorinated biphenyl 126, alters liver function in a rodent model of alcohol-associated liver disease

Summary: This study aimed to develop an alcohol-plus-toxicant model to investigate the impact of environmental pollutant PCB 126 on alcoholic liver disease (ALD). The results showed that PCB 126 exacerbated hepatic steatosis and hepatomegaly in mice on an ethanol diet, leading to compromised liver function and systemic malnutrition. Therefore, environmental toxins interact with alcohol consumption to worsen ethanol-associated systemic malnutrition in ALD.
