Socio-personal factors affecting adherence to treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Nahid Shahabi et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to identify socio-personal factors that affect adherence to treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes. Cross-sectional articles were extracted from databases and a meta-analysis was conducted. The results showed that younger age, smoking, and employment are associated with a higher risk of non-adherence to treatment.

Gender Difference in Secondary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease and Outcomes Following the Survival of Acute Coronary Syndrome

Karice Hyun et al.

Summary: The study found that women are less likely to attend cardiac rehabilitation programs and more likely to experience major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) at 6 months after surviving ACS. At 12 months post-discharge, women were also less likely to use indicated secondary prevention medications.

Association of SGLT2 Inhibitors With Cardiovascular and Kidney Outcomes in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes A Meta-analysis

Darren K. McGuire et al.

Summary: SGLT2 inhibitors were found to reduce the risk of major adverse CV events and showed significant heterogeneity in associations with CV death. The most consistent benefit of this class of drugs was a reduction in risk for heart failure and kidney outcomes, with heart failure risk reduction being the most consistent observation across the trials.

Summary: A study based on a Netherlands health insurance claims (HIC) database revealed that men with chronic heart failure (HF) had a 25% higher incidence of death or HF admission than women. The impact of co-morbidities on the outcome was sex dependent, while medication adherence was not.

In-hospital myocardial infarction and adherence to evidence-based drug therapies: a real-world evaluation

Salvatore Soldati et al.

Summary: The study found that 60% of patients with acute myocardial infarction adhere to chronic polytherapy. Factors such as female gender, older age, mental disorders, renal disease, asthma, etc., are associated with poor adherence. There is an association between the setting of AMI onset and adherence, with out-of-hospital AMI patients more likely to adhere to medications.

Predictors of treatment failure during the first year in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients: a retrospective, observational study

Hon-Ke Sia et al.

Summary: The study aimed to identify predictors of treatment failure (TF) during the first year in adults with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Results showed that patients with baseline HbA1c >= 8% had a higher rate of TF, and factors such as medication adherence, self-monitoring of blood glucose, regular exercise, and gender were associated with a lower risk of TF.

Jelle M. Beernink et al.

Summary: This study evaluated medication adherence in real-world patients with type 2 diabetes and found that 89.3% of patients were adherent. Nonadherent patients had significantly higher rates of microvascular and macrovascular complications, and 67.4% of nonadherent patients did not reach LDL cholesterol targets.
