Type I Cystatin Derived from Fasciola gigantica Suppresses Macrophage-Mediated Inflammatory Responses

Pathanin Chantree et al.

Summary: This study verified the anti-inflammatory potential of recombinant type I cystatin of Fasciola gigantica in human and murine macrophages. It exerted anti-inflammatory activity by reducing the production of proinflammatory cytokines and mediators, as well as downregulating proteins in the NF-kappa B signaling pathway. These findings suggest that cystatin type 1 of F. gigantica may serve as a potential candidate for inflammatory disease treatment.

Molecular Characteristics and Potent Immunomodulatory Activity of Fasciola hepatica Cystatin

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the immune modulatory effects of FhCystatin on mouse macrophages, revealing its ability to inhibit cell activity, promote apoptosis, and regulate the expression of specific cytokines. These findings contribute to our understanding of immune evasion mechanisms and provide potential targets for the development of new drugs to control F. hepatica infection.

Trichinella spiralis cystatin alleviates polymicrobial sepsis through activating regulatory macrophages

Huihui Li et al.

Summary: The study found that helminth-derived proteins have a therapeutic effect on polymicrobial sepsis in mice by promoting macrophage polarization and regulating the expression of inflammatory cytokines, thus reducing pathological injury and improving survival rates.

Molecular Cloning and Characterization of a Fasciola gigantica Nuclear Receptor Subfamily 1 (FgNR1)

Pongsakorn Martviset et al.

Summary: Fasciola gigantica, a giant liver fluke, causes significant economic losses in livestock agriculture worldwide. Drug resistance has become a growing problem, necessitating the discovery of novel drugs and drug targets. This study identifies a putative nuclear receptor subfamily 1 (FgNR1) in F. gigantica and demonstrates its high expression in the caeca and testes of adult parasites, as well as its activation by bile in cultured parasites. These findings suggest that FgNR1 has potential as a target for the development of a new anthelminthic drug.
