Development of risk prediction model for cognitive impairment in patients with coronary heart disease: A study protocol for a prospective, cross-sectional analysis

Qing Wang et al.

Summary: This article examines the risk factors related to mild cognitive impairment in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). A cross-sectional study design recruited 378 CHD patients aged 65 and above, who were divided into cognitive impairment group and normal cognitive function group based on MoCA scores. The study assessed demographic data, disease characteristics, laboratory tests, metabolites, and lifestyle factors as outcome indicators and established a predictive model. The results may contribute to early intervention for cognitive impairment in CHD patients.

Association of Dapagliflozin Use With Clinical Outcomes and the Introduction of Uric Acid-Lowering Therapy and Colchicine in Patients With Heart Failure With and Without Gout A Patient-Level Pooled Meta-analysis of DAPA-HF and DELIVER

Jawad H. Butt et al.

Summary: This study found that gout is common in patients with heart failure and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors can reduce uric acid levels. Gout was associated with worse clinical outcomes, but the efficacy of dapagliflozin was consistent in patients with and without gout. Dapagliflozin also reduced the initiation of new treatments for hyperuricemia and gout.

Dapagliflozin reduces uric acid concentration, an independent predictor of adverse outcomes in DAPA-HF

Kirsty McDowell et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between blood uric acid (UA) levels and outcomes in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). The results showed that higher UA levels were associated with worse outcomes. Dapagliflozin was found to reduce UA levels and improve outcomes, regardless of baseline UA concentration.

Prognostic value of the combination of uric acid and NT-proBNP in patients with chronic heart failure

Gulsum Meral Yilmaz Oztekin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive ability of uric acid (UA) and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) for all-cause mortality, HF hospitalization, and the composite endpoint of HF hospitalization or all-cause mortality in chronic heart failure (HF) patients. The results showed that hyperuricemia alone is an independent predictor of all-cause mortality in chronic HF, but the combination of UA and NT-proBNP is a stronger predictor of poor outcomes.

Summary: Hyperuricaemia is common in heart failure patients and is an independent predictor of disease severity and mortality. Empagliflozin rapidly and continuously reduces SUA levels and clinical events related to hyperuricaemia, with its benefit on the primary outcome being independent of SUA.

Summary: Hyperuricemia is associated with the risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure. In patients with AF and normal renal function, uric acid is significantly correlated with reduced ejection fraction, independent of glomerular filtration rate and diuretic use.

Summary: There is controversy regarding whether uric acid (UA) is a causal risk factor for heart failure (HF). This study found that lowering UA could improve prognosis in patients with hyperuricemia and HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).

Association between Uric Acid and In-Hospital Heart Failure in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Summary: This study investigated the association between serum uric acid levels and in-hospital heart failure (HF) in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). A dose-response relationship was found between uric acid levels and the incidence of in-hospital HF, with each 1 mg/dl increase in uric acid level associated with a 1.60-fold increased risk of HF.ROC curve analysis showed an optimal cut-off value of 5.75 mg/dl for predicting in-hospital HF, with a sensitivity of 69.2% and specificity of 56.3%.
