Ionic Liquid-Based Green Emulsion Liquid Membrane for the Extraction of the Poorly Soluble Drug Ibuprofen

Huma Warsi Khan et al.

Summary: The main objective of this study was to identify the best ionic liquid (IL) for ibuprofen extraction. A total of 152 different cation-anion combinations were screened, and quaternary ammonium (cation) and sulfate (anion) were found to have better extraction ability for ibuprofen. Based on these results, an ionic liquid-based green emulsion liquid membrane (ILGELM) was developed, and the experimental results indicated that it was highly effective for the removal and recovery of ibuprofen.

Menthol and Fatty Acid-Based Hydrophobic Deep Eutectic Solvents as Media for Enzyme Activation

Amal A. M. Elgharbawy et al.

Summary: This research provides insights into the efficacy of a newly formed hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent (DES) based on menthol and fatty acids. The menthol:decanoic acid (1:1) combination exhibited improved thermal stability, strong catalytic activity, and reusability for up to four cycles. The hydrophobic DES showed better fatty acid conversion in ester synthesis compared to hexane. This study demonstrates promising applications of hydrophobic DESs in non-aqueous organic reactions.

Screening of ionic liquids as sustainable greener solvents for the capture of greenhouse gases using COSMO-RS approach: Computational study

Nazrul Islam et al.

Summary: With the growth of the world's population, urbanization, and industrialization, the production of greenhouse gases has also increased. It is necessary to capture these gases to reduce their levels in the atmosphere due to their harmful impact on the environment and livelihoods. Conventional solvents for capturing greenhouse gases are toxic, expensive, and generate additional waste. Ionic liquids (ILs) provide a sustainable alternative as green solvents due to their excellent properties. However, screening millions of ILs is time-consuming and inconvenient. This study used the COSMO-RS technique to pre-screen 720 ILs combinations and identified suitable cations and anions for capturing greenhouse gases.
