Fatigue-induced microstructure evolution and ratcheting behavior of ultrafine-grained (UFG) pure aluminum processed by accumulative roll bonding (ARB)

S. Karami et al.

Summary: In this study, the fatigue and cyclic deformation behavior of ultrafine-grained pure aluminum AA1100 product by accumulative roll bonding (ARB) process under stress-controlled in the presence of mean stress were investigated. The tensile properties of the material were improved due to grain refinement caused by severe strain imposed during seven cycles of the ARB process. The fatigue life was found to depend greatly on the ARB cycle, showing an increase with the increasing cycle. TEM observations revealed the microstructural evolution induced by fatigue, with dense dislocation patterns recovering and transforming during cyclic deformation.

Utilizing a unified conceptual dynamic model for prediction of particle size of duel-matrix nanocomposites during mechanical alloying

H. Ahmadian et al.

Summary: This study developed an analytical model to predict the morphological changes in nanocomposite powders during mechanical alloying. The model was applied to predict the particle size of magnesium-based hybrid composite powder reinforced with Ti and SiC. The effect of milling time on the morphology, microstructure, and particle size of composite powders was explored. Experimental and model predictions showed different optimal milling times for different materials, and increasing milling time led to changes in crystalline structure and crystallite size.

An enhanced Dendritic Neural Algorithm to predict the wear behavior of alumina coated silver reinforced copper nanocomposites

A. M. Sadoun et al.

Summary: Due to the lack of analytical solutions, a modified machine learning method named Dendritic Neural (DN) was used to predict the wear performance of copper-alumina (Cu-Al2O3) nanocomposites. The optimal weights of DN were determined by a new meta-heuristic technique named Artificial Hummingbird Algorithm (AHA) to improve its performance. The developed model using AHA algorithm showed excellent predictability of the wear rate and coefficient of friction for Cu-Al2O3 nanocomposites with reinforcement content up to 10%.

I. M. R. Najjar et al.

Summary: We used machine learning (ML) to analyze the tensile strength of aluminum nanocomposites reinforced with m-SiC particles fabricated by ARB. The effect of ARB passes on the microstructure, phase analysis, tensile, and hardness properties was investigated. The experimental results showed the improved distribution of SiC particles with increasing ARB passes. The developed ML model, based on the Growth Optimizer Algorithm, accurately predicts the tensile properties of the composites.

Strength evolution during accumulative roll bonding of the metal matrix composite

H. Parvin et al.

Summary: The strength evolution of metal matrix composite during processing/cycling via accumulative roll bonding (ARB) is analyzed using a twofold model. The evolution consists of monolithic-like behavior and composite-like behavior, with each behavior making a different contribution. Particle effectiveness is lowest at the beginning of the cycling process and reaches its highest value during the later cycles. The onset of declining monolithic-like behavior is observed at a critical strain, and there is a minimum strain at which composite-like behavior dominates.

Morteza Alizadeh et al.

Summary: In this research, Al/5Zn/1Mg composite sheets were produced by the ARB process and transformed into Al-5Zn-1Mg alloy sheets through a heat treatment process. Structural investigations using SEM, EDS, and XRD showed the distribution of Zn layers and Mg powder particles in the Al matrix, as well as the formation of the alpha phase. Tensile and microhardness measurements demonstrated the improvement in mechanical properties with increasing ARB cycles.

BONDING PROPERTIES OF Al/Al2O3 BULK COMPOSITES PRODUCED VIA COMBINED STIR CASTING AND ACCUMULATIVE PRESS BONDING

Saade Abdalkareem Jasim et al.

Summary: In this study, Al/Al2O3 composites were fabricated by combining stir casting and accumulative press bonding (APB) processes. The effect of the APB method on the bonding properties of the samples was investigated. It was found that increasing the pressing temperature and decreasing the Al2O3 particle content improved the bonding quality. Increasing the number of APB steps enhanced the bonding strength up to a certain point and then decreased the average peeling force.
