Curcumin-stabilized silver nanoparticles encapsulated in biocompatible electrospun nanofibrous scaffold for sustained eradication of drug-resistant bacteria

Summary: Due to antibiotic misuse, the emergence of drug-resistant pathogenic microbes has raised concern for public health. This study successfully encapsulated curcumin-reduced and stabilized silver nanoparticles (C-Ag NPs) into electrospun nanofiber membranes composed of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) cross-linked with citric acid (CA), which demonstrated desirable biocompatibility and broad-spectrum antimicrobial activities. The constructed nanofibrous scaffolds exhibited a homogeneously distributed and sustained release of C-Ag NPs, resulting in a significant killing effect against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and Candida albicans, mediated by reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that PVA/CA/C-Ag disrupted carbohydrate and energy metabolism and bacterial membranes, suggesting its potential in overcoming bacterial resistance and eradicating drug-resistant pathogenic microbes in various applications.

Astragalus polysaccharide improves the growth, meat quality, antioxidant capacity and bacterial resistance of Furong crucian carp (Furong carp♀ x red crucian carp♂)

Nanopeptide C-I20 as a novel feed additive effectively alleviates detrimental impacts of soybean meal on mandarin fish by improving the intestinal mucosal barrier

Summary: In this study, mandarin fish were fed with a soybean meal diet supplemented with different levels of nano antibacterial peptide C-I20. The results showed that feeding 160 mg/Kg C-I20 significantly improved the growth performance and intestinal health of mandarin fish and effectively reduced tissue injury. These findings suggest that dietary supplementation of a reasonable concentration of nano antibacterial peptide C-I20 can effectively alleviate the negative effects of soybean meal and provide a new strategy for aquaculture development.

Effects of dietary Astragalus polysaccharides on growth, health and resistance to Vibrio harveyi of Lates calcarifer

Summary: This study demonstrates that the supplementation of Astragalus polysaccharides (APS) can have beneficial effects on the growth, health, and resistance to Vibrio harveyi of Asian seabass. APS supplementation at 0.10% to 0.20% significantly improved the growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, and intestinal health of Asian seabass. Furthermore, APS supplementation enhanced the antioxidant capacity and immune function of the fish. However, a higher concentration of APS (0.20%) had adverse effects on the growth and immune response of Asian seabass.
