Generation and characterization of genetically and antigenically diverse infectious clones of dengue virus serotypes 1-4

Tomokazu Tamura et al.

Summary: Dengue is caused by four genetically distinct viral serotypes, and studying their interactions and diversity has been limited by the lack of adequate tools. In this study, researchers created and characterized infectious clones of DENV1-4 from different regions, confirming their genetic and antigenic diversity. These clones replicated effectively in cells and induced immune responses in mice engrafted with a human immune system. Overall, this workflow provides valuable resources for studying DENV and its host responses.

Dengue fever and dengue virus in People's Republic of China

Tiantian Wu et al.

Summary: Infection with dengue virus (DENV) can lead to a range of symptoms from dengue fever to severe dengue, causing a significant burden on global populations, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. The four serotypes of DENV have been identified in China, leading to frequent outbreaks in southern and coastal provinces. Despite the lack of antiviral drugs and approved vaccines, strategies such as public awareness and mosquito control have helped reduce the prevalence of dengue in China.

Global Evolutionary History and Dynamics of Dengue Viruses Inferred from Whole Genome Sequences

Caleb J. Stica et al.

Summary: Dengue is a global arboviral disease with high mortality rates. This study investigated trends in dengue virus (DENV) evolution using phylogenetic and selection pressure analyses. The results revealed important amino acid sites undergoing positive selection and genotypes diversifying at different rates. These findings enhance our understanding of DENV evolution and have implications for disease control and vaccine design.

Development and Characterization of a Genetically Stable Infectious Clone for a Genotype I Isolate of Dengue Virus Serotype 1

Mingyue Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, a full-length infectious clone of DENV-1 genotype I isolate was successfully constructed, and the virus's infectivity and titer were improved through consecutive passages and amino acid substitutions. The clone exhibited genetic stability in transformant bacteria, serving as a useful tool for DENV-1 research.

The Dual Regulation of Apoptosis by Flavivirus

Yuhong Pan et al.

Summary: Apoptosis is a programmed cell death process that maintains cellular homeostasis by eliminating infected cells and is crucial for host defense. Flaviviruses like Dengue virus manipulate cell apoptosis through various strategies. Understanding the apoptosis mechanism during flavivirus infection is essential for studying pathogenesis and developing antiviral therapies.
